04 X has new rules that officially allow NSFW
X now permits consensually produced adult content if labeled and not in profile pictures or banners. Users posting NSFW content regularly must mark it as sensitive.
The rules also ban content promoting exploitation, nonconsent, harm to minors, and obscene behaviors. Despite these changes, enforcement remains challenging.
By default, users under 18 or without a birth date cannot view NSFW material, ensuring minors are protected from explicit content.

Spotify is raising prices for its US subscribers next month, marking the second increase in a year. Premium will cost $11.99/month (up from $10.99), Duo will rise to $16.99/month (up from $14.99), and Family will be $19.99/month (up from $16.99). This represents a 20-30% increase over the past year.

07 Instagram Is Testing Unskippable Ad Breaks
Instagram is currently testing a new feature called "Ad Breaks" that interrupt your browsing experience, requiring you to view an advertisement for at least 3-5 seconds before you can continue scrolling through their feed.
Meta has been facing some challenges related to its personalized ads services, like stricter privacy rules in the EU or US and the rise of TikTok. Thus, Meta is trying out different things to make more money, like in-app purchases, subscriptions, and now, these unskippable Ad Breaks.

10 Microsoft is working on a WSL Settings GUI application
The app, called WSL Settings GUI, will allow you to manage and view various WSL parameters without the need to manually edit the ".wslconfig" file.
The graphical configurator presents all possible options, which will be grouped into categories. There will be hints if this or option is applicable to the current configuration and system.
In the future, Microsoft will also add the ability to use the Dev Home dashboard to manage and launch WSL environments.

11 Man scammed after AI told him fake Facebook customer support number was real
Dave Gaudreau, a Winnipeg man, got scammed after calling a fake Facebook support number found online by his wife. Facebook's "Meta AI" tool incorrectly verified the number as legitimate.
The scammer, posing as Facebook support, accessed his account and claimed his IP address was hacked. She instructed him to download an app that gave her access to his phone. During the call, the scammer accessed his PayPal account and purchased a $500 Apple gift card. Gaudreau's wife realized the scam, prompting him to cancel credit cards and file fraud complaints. PayPal agreed to reverse the $500 charge against his account.
Gaudreau also filed a complaint with Meta, and hasn't received a response yet.

13 Xiaomi hit with patent lawsuit in India and France
Sun Patent Trust has filed patent lawsuits against Xiaomi in major markets like India and France.
These lawsuits allege that Xiaomi has been using LTE-A technology without permission.
LTE-A is an advanced 4G standard that offers faster speeds and better performance compared to regular LTE
The accusations claim that Xiaomi has been using this patented technology in its 4G devices since late 2018 without proper licensing.
These lawsuits are collectively valued at over $300 Million
The Paris Judicial Court and the High Court of Delhi will assess whether Xiaomi has indeed infringed on the patent or not.
Despite attempts at negotiation since 2019, Xiaomi has not reached an agreement with the patent holder.
Thus Sun Patent Trust which is not known for aggressive litigation, has taken legal action due to Xiaomi’s stance.

14 Cooler Master hit by data breach exposing customer information
Cooler Master has suffered a data breach after a threat actor by the alias 'Ghostr' claimed to steal the Fanzone member information of 500,000 customers, the size being of the data being 103 GB on May 18th, 2024.
The threat actor said they attempted to contact the company for payment not to leak or sell the data, but Cooler Master did not respond. So, they will sell the data in the future but has yet to choose the price.
This data breach includes cooler master corporate, vendor, sales, warranty, inventory and hr data as well as over 500,000 of their fanzone members personal information, including name, address, date of birth, phone, email + plain unencrypted credit card information containing name, credit card number, expiry and 3 digits cc code.

15 Cybercriminals pose as "helpful" Stack Overflow users to push malware
Cybercriminals are answering users' questions by promoting a malicious PyPi package that installs Windows information-stealing malware.
This PyPi package is named 'pytoileur' and was uploaded by threat actors to the PyPi repository over the weekend, claiming it was an API management tool.
The package downloads an executable named 'runtime.exe' [VirusTotal] from a remote site and executes it, which acts as an information-stealing malware to harvest cookies, passwords, browser history, credit cards, and other data from web browsers.

16 Microsoft Edge may now load its Browser Essentials up to 76% faster
Microsoft created WebUI 2.0 after discovering that many Edge components used code bundles that were "too large." WebUI 2.0 changes this by reducing these packages and using a "more modular" architecture.
Starting with the Browser Essentials tool, the UI is now 42% faster for Edge users and 76% faster on devices without an SSD or with less than 8GB RAM. The speed of the Edge favorites menu is now 40% faster as well.
Edge history, downloads, and wallet features will also eventually receive the WebUI 2.0 update.

17 Google might have accidentally published docs about how Search works
The material appears to have been committed to a publicly accessible Google-owned repository on GitHub around March 13 by their own automated tooling.
The leaked documentation describes an old version of Google's Content Warehouse API and provides a glimpse of Google Search’s inner workings. There are over 2,500 pages in total. While this data shows what factors Google Search might take into consideration when ordering Search results, it does not reveal what the importance/”weight” of each factor is to the final ranking.
The SEO consultants believe the documents contain noteworthy details because they differ from public statements made by Google representatives.

18 OpenAI has a new safety team, however, it’s run by Sam Altman
OpenAI is forming a new "Safety and Security Committee", led by CEO Sam Altman, along with board members Adam D’Angelo and Nicole Seligman.
The committee will make recommendations on "critical safety and security decisions for OpenAI projects and operations"
For its first task, the new team will "evaluate and further develop OpenAI’s processes and safeguards." It will then present its findings to OpenAI’s board, which all three team leaders have a seat on. The board will then decide how to implement the safety team’s recommendations.
Along with the new safety board, OpenAI announced that it’s testing a new AI model, but it didn’t confirm whether it’s GPT-5.

19 YouTube videos are skipping to the end for users with adblockers
YouTube videos are suddenly skipping straight to the end of the video. Even if the video is just replayed, it skips straight to the end almost immediately. It’s a strange phenomenon and one that only appears to be happening for users with an adblocker installed.
Also, if you try to skip to a certain part of the video, it just endlessly loads in some cases.
Many believe that this is an intentional move on YouTube’s part to discourage the use of adblockers.
Note: This has been fixed on uBlock Origin.

21 T-Mobile signs a $4.4 billion deal to buy most of US Cellular
T-Mobile has agreed to purchase parts of US Cellular in a $4.4 billion deal that includes its wireless customers, stores, and approximately 30% of spectrum assets.
US Cellular will retain ownership of its towers and approximately 70% of its spectrum portfolio across several spectrum bands, with T-Mobile entering a long-term arrangement to lease space on more than 2,000 towers.
US Cellular customers can choose to stay on their current plan or move to an unlimited T-Mobile plan with no switching costs.

23 Microsoft has released a Microsoft Copilot Beta bot on Telegram
This bot is verified and currently in beta.
To use it, you need to send your number linked to yout Telegram account. According to the bot, it requires the number for a quick one-time verification and doesn't store your number.
The bot shows message suggestions and quick responses as well. However, it does not support Image Generation yet.

24 Google Play Store begins highlighting apps that let you delete your account
Google Play Store has begun surfacing the “Account deletion available” badge in the Data Safety section within the App listings.
Since December 2023, Google has been pushing developers to include information about app account deletion in their store listings. Developers can request an extension until May 31, 2024, after which non-compliant apps may face "additional enforcement actions" in the future, such as removal from the Google Play Store.

25 Windows 11 iOT LTSC 2024 has been released to manufacturers!
The 2024 edition of Windows 11 LTSC has finally dropped. As always, this version is extremely lightweight and smooth. I've been running it on my PC since yesterday. The experience has been decent, it consumes only 2.9/32gb RAM with 1% CPU usage on idle.
An interesting thing to note here is the fact that Paint and Calculator are in their legacy Windows 7 versions. By default, you can make a local account without disconnecting from the internet and as always, Microsoft Store is not installed.
Overall, for those who do not like to use mods on their system, this is definitely the choice to go for.
