Messier 51 (M51), better known as the Whirlpool Galaxy, is a famous grand-design spiral galaxy located in the constellation Canes Venatici. The Whirlpool Galaxy has an apparent magnitude of 8.4 and lies at an approximate distance of 23 million light years from Earth. It has the designation NGC 5194 in the New General Catalogue.

NGC 4631 and NGC 4657 – The Whale and the Hockey Stick
The Whale Galaxy is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. NGC 4631 has been given the nickname “The Whale Galaxy” thanks to its wedge-like shape that resembles a whale.
This galaxy lies 25 million light-years from Earth, and is a similar size to our own Milky Way Galaxy. The Whale Galaxy contains interesting star-forming regions throughout and has a bright elliptical companion galaxy above its core (NGC 4627).

I was happy to get 2 hours in on Orion's Nebula after capturing NGC4565. Not the best seeing conditions but for sure better than the cloudy forecast I was expecting 👍🏽

NGC 4565 - Needle Galaxy - Spiral Galaxy
NGC 4565, also known as the Needle Galaxy, is the finest and brightest example of an edge-on spiral galaxy in the sky. It shines at magnitude +9.5 and therefore is bright enough to be seen with small telescopes. The galaxy is located in the constellation of Coma Berenices. Since positioned at the eastern edge of the sprawling naked eye Coma Star Cluster (Mel 111), it's easy to find.
NGC 4565 was discovered by William Herschel on April 6, 1785. It's number 38 in the Caldwell catalogue and is best seen from northern locations during the months of March, April and May. This spiral is physically large and similar in size to the Andromeda Galaxy (M31).
Believed to be about 550 light-years away, this awesome cluster consists of hundreds of members – with at least four orange giants and five white dwarfs. M44’s age is similar to that of the Pleiades, and it is believed that both clusters have a common origin. Although you won’t see any nebulosity in the Beehive, even the very smallest of binoculars will reveal a swarm of bright stars and large telescopes can resolve down to 350 faint stars.
Messier 44 is the nearest open cluster of its type to our Solar System, and it contains a larger star population than most other nearby clusters. Under dark skies the Beehive Cluster looks like a nebulous object to the unaided eye; thus it has been known since ancient times. The classical astronomer Ptolemy called it “the nebulous mass in the heart of Cancer,” and it was among the first objects that Galileo studied with his telescope.
