Thanks Kudelski for Proving Me Right about Solana
If youāre curious, read the report here: https://research.kudelskisecurity.com/2023/03/06/polynonce-a-tale-of-a-novel-ecdsa-attack-and-bitcoin-tears/
Tl;dr - Kudelski cracked a ton of addresses on Bitcoin with faulty nonces (via signature collection, message recovery then analyzing the mathematical relationship between signatures to recover the private key). Almost all cracked wallets were cracked post-2016 (after Bitcoin cleared lower āsā scalar values by default & had implemented deterministic RFC6979 signatures).
Oh, and Kudelski open sourced all of the code they used to collect the data, aggregate transactions, parse them down to r,s values + original message + associated public key & the code they used to iterate their novel ārecurrence relationā algorithm over curated signatures for each specific address to recover private keys from these signatures.
Ethereum curiously proved to be safe (they use keccak256 instead of sha256 for signatures right? I think this may be a vector worthy of exploration bc a recently expired informational IETF RFC advised against using HMAC period (KMAC instead) but insisted if you do, then donāt use sha256 - instead choose sha3/keccak)
Oh, also - in almost every instance the funds were already gone from vulnerable addresses (so looks like someone already figured this out & managed to successfully exploit said wallet addresses).

Senator Elizabeth Warren's Letter to Binance
This one is a doozy - https://www.warren.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/2023.03.01 Letter to Binance and Binance.US re Compliance and Risk.pdf
Some highlights here:
1. "Recent investigations revealed that your companies have implemented a series of systems specifically designed to circumvent regulatory oversight and facilitate theft, money laundering, and terrorist financing, thereby obscuring its illegal activity."
2. "Binance now faces investigations into criminal sanctions evasion, money laundering conspiracy, unlicensed money transmission, questions about its financial health, and increased scrutiny over its intentionally 'opaque corporate structure'."
3. "Meanwhile, what little information about Binance's finances is available to the public suggests that the exchange is a hotbed of illegal financial activity that has facilitated over $10 billion in payments to criminals and sanctions evaders."
4. "Federal prosectors have now subpoenaed U.S.-based investment firms with ties to Binance as part of their ongoing investigations into the company's 'potential violations of money laundering rules..."
5. "New reporting has found that, over the course of three months in early 2021, over $400 million was moved out of Binance.US's bank account at Silvergate Bank and into an account held by 'a trading firm managed by Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao'" (she's referring to Key Vision Development Limited)
6. "Mr. Zhao's assertion that Binance.US is fully independent is eerily similar to claims Sam Bankman-Fried made regarding the distinction between FTX US and FTX." (guess she's starting to get hip to the fact that FTX was literally a little brother clone of Binance)
7. "In the few years since its founding, Binance has laundered billions in crypto, moving at least $10 billion to criminals and sanctions evaders. This is no accident. It appears that money laundering is central to Binance's business strategy - so much so that Mr. Zhao himself has directed his so-called 'compliance' team to substantially weaken the platform's anti-money laundering controls, or do away with them completely."
8. "Binance and its related entities have purposefully evaded regulators, moved assets to criminals and sanctions evaders, and hidden basic financial information from its customers and the public. Your actions have called into question the legitimacy of your business and the safety of your customers' assets and raised concerns about the potential impact of these activities on the stability of the crypto market and the broader financial system."
Yikes.

Initially, count three of SBF's unsealed indictment accused him of 'Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud on Lenders'.
However, in this superseding indictment, count three has been changed to 'Conspiracy to Commit Fraud on Customers of FTX in Connection with Purchase and Sales of Derivatives'.
Notably, the major difference here is that they mention the purchase and sales of derivatives.

SBF's Superseding Indictment Proves Our Theory about Derivatives Trading was Correct
So a little while ago we published an extensive theory in this channel about how the downfall of Alameda & FTX was precipitated by SBF's ineffective handling of the platform's derivatives markets.
https://twitter.com/librehash/status/1619167341253890049?s=20
This most recent superseding indictment appears to strongly support that theory. Or it at least indicates that the Feds are onto the same idea.

Woops, forgot to mention the person that tagged world-renowned cryptographer JP Aumasson was an Avalanche fanboy that also linked Ava Labsā premature response to what I published.
So that was his adjudication after likely reading their rebuttal & my research.
Yikes. If JP Aumasson thinks thereās a nonce issue, how likely do you think it is thatā¦there actually is?
3 184
By world-renowned cryptographer, I mean heās part of the team that created Blake, Blake2 & Blake3. Plus SipHash. Plus SPHINCS+ (approved post-quantum cryptographic scheme), & Argon2 (strongest password hash on earth) - thatās just a start.

Someone asked world-renowned cryptographer JP Aumasson ādoes this pass the sniff testā & his response was āthanks for asking - **well, it looks like nonce reuse problem but idk how bad**ā¦ā
So, thereās that.
