Frank S. Greene was one of the first black technologists, breaking the color barrier in the local industry. He developed high-speed semiconductor computer memory systems at Fairchild Semiconductor R&D Labs in the 1960s. He started two technology companies and later founded NewVista Capital, a venture firm with a special focus on minority- and female-headed firms. The third place winners of Solve IT 2019, were awarded a prize of 25,000 ETB. The team that came third place at the Solve IT 2019 Grand Finale were none other than, Hana Telahun and Hume Degebassa with Yegna. This team of 5 came up with a device that is suitable and comfortable for both mothers and professionals to monitor the frequency and strength of uterine contraction by controlling oxytocin drip. “As females, we are very sensitive to this issue and we wanted to bring change” was the team’s response when they were asked their motive for the project. When asked about the project Solve IT 2019 mentor Nebiyat Getachew replied saying: "They are a good team, I mean they were a great team throughout the Solve IT competition both regional and the finals. They are a team that goes above and beyond their mandatory requirements and as a business owner it is a crucial element. They proved to me they weren't just about the competition. They showed that they valued what they were doing. I think this project is a valuable asset to the Ethiopian market and medical sector since it solves a truly big problem - the death of mothers during childbirths. Ethiopia has set a goal to decrease the amount of deaths during childbirths substantially by 2020. And this project can truly do that. We know that currently in Ethiopia augmentation and induction devices exist yet they exist in fewer numbers and separately. Moreover, they aren't reliable as they are being operated manually by the doctors. Yegna will be manufactured in Ethiopia and operated with the help of sensors and other electronic elements.
