To me, there is one universal body of Christ spiritually. God also intends believers to be part of a local, visible church. Local churches should follow biblical doctrine and leadership. Therefore, rejecting all denominations and organized churches goes further than what the New Testament teaches.

1. Don’t decide church doctrine based on what feels spiritual. 2. Don’t reject organized churches because of bad experiences with religion. 3. Let Scripture define what the church is.

If God established local churches, pastors, deacons, and congregational worship throughout the New Testament, then saying ‘I reject religion and denominations’ comes off as “leaning on personal understanding” rather than simply accepting what Scripture teaches. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

In fact, Lin should read 1 Timothy and Titus, and both books discuss the qualifications for church leaders. I would also refer Lin to Hebrews 10:25, which instructs believers not to forsake assembling together. “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

Lin must not be familiar with the churches the Apostle Paul established. I would encourage Lin, and those who are blindly following him, to read the New Testament. And more specifically, to study the Book of Acts. The pattern we see in Acts and throughout Paul’s epistles is that local churches had leadership, accountability, doctrine, and organization. Rather than following the teachings of any modern personality, we should compare all things to Scripture and follow the biblical model laid out by Christ and His apostles.
