ð°ðHOW TO FIX âAPPLICATION NOT INSTALLEDâ ERROR ON ANDROID PHONESðð°
âïžA time comes when we try to install an Android app and we see the error âApplication not installedâ. This is very common with apk files downloaded from the wild. No matter how you try, you still get the same app not installed error.
What could be the cause of this? We shall explore the common causes and possible solutions to this issue:
Possible/Common causes of âApplication not Installedâ error
ðInsufficient storage space: Your storage space may have filled up with no more space to accommodate new apps.
ððCorrupted app or apk file: This is most common with apps downloaded from outside Google Play Store. The app is either corrupted or incompletely downloaded or copied as the case maybe.
ðIncorrect app install location: Some apps are meant to be only installed on phone memory while some others can be installed on both phone memory and SD card. Trying do otherwise with the former can bring up this errors.
ðInstallation on a mounted SD card: Maybe, your SD card is mounted on a laptop or elsewhere. Trying to install anything in this state will result in errors because the SD card is inaccessible.
Corrupted storage (Phone and SD card): This is probably the most common cause of this error. If the storage of your device is corrupted, any app installation will be impossible.
Apk signature/certificate clash: Installing another version of an app (with a different signed certificate) on the same device will probably result in this error. Installing an unsigned app could also result in this error.
App permission errors or temporary OS glitches could also bring about this error.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS OF âAPPLICATION NOT INSTALLEDâ ERROR
â ïžReboot the phone: In times like this, first thing to do is to reboot your device. Or just shut down, remove and reinsert your battery.
â ïžMake sure to uninstall any apps you donât use to free up space, also uninstall previous versions of the same app currently installed on your device.
â ïžDouble check the apk files you download and be sure they were completely copied or downloaded.
â ïžTry resetting app permissions by going to Settings >Apps>All>Menu key >Reset application permissions or Reset app preferences.
â ïžChange app installation location to Automatic or Let system decide.
â ïžMake sure your SD card is not mounted or connected to a PC or elsewhere.
â ïžFor worst case scenarios, format your SD card â copy itâs contents somewhere else for backup and format.
â ïžThe last solution would be to totally wipe your device. Either by doing a factory reset under Settings or by doing a full wipe in recovery mode.

Abbreviations
ð DDoS = Distributed Denial of Service
ð DrDoS = Distributed Reflected Denial of Service Attack, uses a list of reflection servers or other methods such as DNS to spoof an attack to look like it's coming from multiple ips. Amplification of power in the attack COULD occur.
ðFTP =File Transfer Protocol. Used for transferring files over an FTP server.
ð FUD = Fully Undetectable
ðHex =In computer science, hexadecimal refers to base-16 numbers. These are numbers that use digits in the range: 0123456789ABCDEF. In the C programming language (as well as Java, JavaScript, C++, and other places), hexadecimal numbers are prefixed by a 0x. In this manner, one can tell that the number 0x80 is equivalent to 128 decimal, not 80 decimal.
ðHTTP =Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. The foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web.
ðIRC = Internet Relay Chat. Transmiting text messages in real time between online users.
ðJDB =Java drive-by, a very commonly used web-based exploit which allows an attacker to download and execute malicious code locally on a slave's machine through a widely known java vulnerability.
ðMalware =Malicious Software
ð Nix = Unix based operating system, usually refered to here when refering to DoS'ing.
ðPOP3 =This is the most popular protocol for picking up e-mail from a server.
ðR.A.T = Remote Administration Tool
ðSDB = Silent drive-by, using a zero day web-based exploit to hiddenly and un-detectably download and execute malicious code on a slave's system. (similar to a JDB however no notification or warning is given to the user)
ðSE = Social Engineering
ðSkid =Script Kid/Script Kiddie
ðSMTP =A TCP/IP protocol used in sending and receiving e-mail.
ðSQL =Structured Query Language. It's a programming language, that used to communicate with databases and DBMS. Can go along with a word after it, such as "SQL Injection."
ðSSH =Secure Shell, used to connect to Virtual Private Servers.
ðTCP = Transmission Control Protocol, creates connections and exchanges packets of data.
ðUDP =User Datagram Protocol, An alternative data transport to TCP used for DNS, Voice over IP, and file sharing.
ðVPN =Virtual Private Network
ð VPS =Virtual Private Server
ðXSS (CSS) = Cross Site Scripting

ðAlgorithm = A series of steps specifying which actions to take in which order.
ðANSI Bomb = ANSI.SYS key-remapping commands consist of cryptic-looking text that specifies, using ansi numeric codes to redefine keys.
ðBack Door = Something a hacker leaves behind on a system in order to be able to get back in at a later time.
ðBinary = A numbering system in which there are only two possible values for each digit: 0 and 1.
ðBlack Hat = A hacker who performs illegal actions to do with hacking online. (Bad guy, per se)
ðBlue Hat =A blue hat hacker is someone outside computer security consulting firms who is used to bug test a system prior to its launch, looking for exploits so they can be closed. Microsoft also uses the term BlueHat to represent a series of security briefing events.
ðBot = A piece of malware that connects computer to an attacker commonly using the HTTP or IRC protocal to await malicous instructions.
ðBotnet = Computers infected by worms or Trojans and taken over by hackers and brought into networks to send spam, more viruses, or launch denial of service attacks.
ðBuffer Overflow = A classic exploit that sends more data than a programmer expects to receive. Buffer overflows are one of the most common programming errors, and the ones most likely to slip through quality assurance testing.
