#Expression #Friends #Topic_number_five 1⃣"To keep in touch with someone" It means to maintain contact or communication with another person, typically by staying in regular contact through various means such as phone calls, text messages, emails, or social media. It indicates an ongoing effort to stay connected and maintain a relationship despite physical distance or busy schedules. An example in a sentence: "Even though they live on opposite sides of the country, Jessica and her best friend Samantha make sure to keep in touch with each other by sending frequent updates and having video calls every week." 2⃣"A casual acquaintance" It refers to someone you know and interact with on an informal basis, but with whom you don't share a close or deep relationship. It is a person you may encounter occasionally, usually in social settings, work environments, or shared activities, but who is not considered a close friend or confidant. An example in a sentence: "At the office party, John struck up a conversation with a casual acquaintance from the marketing department, discussing recent trends in the industry and sharing some light-hearted jokes."

‼️‼️‼️یادداشت یکی از اساتید دانشگاه استنفورد راجع به نحوه ارسال ایمیل برای پوزیشن های پست داک: 1/ Keep your first message short and only attach your CV as a PDF. Hyperlinks to your website (preferred) or to your LinkedIn profile are OK.   2/ Don't write the salutation ("Dear X") or various parts of your email in different fonts. In other words, don’t make your message look like a ransom note.   3/ Know the difference between the first and last name of the email recipient. If it’s a prof, the formal salutation is “Dear Prof. Lastname”. “Dr.” is also OK, if the person has a PhD or equivalent. Don’t write “Dear Prof./Dr. Firstname”, it tends to sound awkward, at least in the US. Don't start with "Hey," it's unprofessional. Avoid "Dear Sir" too. 4/ Spell the name of the email recipient and their institution’s name correctly. For example, I don’t work at "Standford" University.   5/ If you worked with someone who has collaborated with the person you are contacting, please mention this. (Name-dropping is OK!) Just be comfortable if the recipient reaches out (to them) to ask about you. 6/ If you are applying for a postdoc fellowship or similar external funding, you should mention this, ideally near the top of your message.   7/ Format your CV consistently. A poorly formatted CV could suggest you may not be a careful researcher.   8/ Your CV needs just a few parts: Education, Employment, Awards, Journal Papers & Conference Abstracts, separately. (Plus Patents & Invited Talks, if applicable.) The recipient does not need to know you have a black belt in MS Office. They can tell what you’re good at from your publications.   9/ On your CV, include all your publications in anti-chronological order, with all author names (avoid “et al.”), and bold your name on this list. Include publications that are submitted (in review) but not those “in preparation.”   10/ Never list journal impacts factors on your CV. Do not list them with 4 significant digits and do not list them at all. 11/ Do not use email trackers. You’re not the East German Stasi (I hope)!   12/ Understand how publishing in the recipient’s field works. In my field, the PI is last and/or corresponding author. For my group, if your application is inspired by some paper where I wasn't the last author, you should probably apply for a postdoc with the last author instead.   13/ If you don’t hear back from your first cold email AND you think you’re a very good fit to the recipient’s lab, don’t give up. Busy people get hundreds of emails per day. Send one more follow-up, but keep that brief as well.
