āļø SUPREME COURT EXPANSION THROUGH ORDINANCE
The President's Article 123 Ordinance increased the Supreme Court's sanctioned strength from 34 to 38 judges to address rising pendency (93,143 cases) and enable more Constitution Benches for important constitutional matters.
While the move aims to improve judicial efficiency, it has triggered a debate on judicial independence, security of tenure, and separation of powers, as three newly appointed judges currently occupy posts created through a temporary Ordinance rather than a Parliamentary law.
