| 19 | drag, inhale, exhale the excess. that’s usually how it goes when smoking; at least the minimalistic version of what some consider a lifestyle. explaining such art in simple terms can be took as a sin. i’ve seen the elegance of cigarettes in between your fingers, the way you hand slopes after you’ve taken a drag, observed the smoothness of your face when the buzz invades, your pouty lips when you let go. it came naturally to you; my lips would shake for the first few times, be it from anxiety or inexperience is covered in ambiguity. you used to light my cigs with yours, often making me wonder who had smoked longer. a dozen times we smoked in half a day, finishing what we lit and craving a burning throat again. an inability to stand straight became religious, having to lean on a tree to keep ourselves from falling. you looked at your winston with eyes choked with love and relief, making me realize you never stared at me like that. if a simple cigarette was something you enjoyed more than my kisses, it was futile what we had and sooner rather than later, you’d choose a backwood over me. | 279 |
