The artist's main theme in photographs is the status of women. "I explore the themes of trauma, extreme experiences & the tensions associated with them. I add a personal dimension to these themes, often using myself as the object in performative actions. New & one of the biggest museum in the world opened in Warsaw - Polish History Museum📽️ This is a museum of Poland's 1,000-year history & one of the most modern museums in Europe. The official inauguration of the museum took place on Sept. 28. Its construction began in 2018 & it is located at the site of the Warsaw Citadel (19th century fortress on the banks of the Vistula River). I previously wrote about the Citadel here, you can find it using the tag #warsawslook_city. Reported cost of the museum is approximately over 1 billion zł (€216million). The museum is impressive in design & appearance thanks to harmonising colours of the stone facade. It covers an area 44,000 m2 on six levels with a panoramic roof terrace🏙️ Currently it houses: a temporary exhibition (1400 m2) titled "Big & Small Stories. How the Polish History Museum’s Collection Was Built", amazing free library, auditorium, cinema & theatre hall and very spacious outdoor roof terrace. Unfortunately, the permanent exhibition (7300 m2) is under construction & will take another three years to build. ✨The museum was designed by WXCA*. Its "façade refers to the successive layers of our history: from the earliest times to the present day... Newly opened cafe at Praga district (yeah, one more) - Toast🥯 I had the pleasure of visiting a cute café w/ a hidden courtyard. A place charmed by its cozy atmosphere & warm, welcoming decor. Flowers on a table, bright colour accents, wooden elements, soft lighting... & magical courtyard!🌾 Tucked away behind the main dining area, it’s the perfect escape from the bustling city streets. Seems so perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee, a book or a conversation with friends. A courtyard w/ greenery & mint tables, surrounded by brick wall. What about food? The menu includes breakfast (until 1 p.m.), main courses (from 2 p.m.), toasts (all day) & drinks. I came around 1:10 p.m., so unfortunately the only option was to order toast. I tried a Toast Toast w/ crushed eggs (25 zł), it was tasty, but nothing special. And the person with me praised a toast w/ jerk chicken (35 zł). I ordered black tea, but it turned out that they had a limited tea selection (there was no classic black tea, which is kind of strange for me). It may have run out & they usually have it, but I couldn't order it. The staff were friendly, but waiting time was a little long. The waitress was so nice enough to apologise for inconvenience. ✨This place reminded me of a nice minimalist bakery w/ a courtyard in Berlin - Sofi. Toast's patio is smaller, but still charming. ✨ I am a big fan of beautiful concepts. All the time when I travel abroad, I look for such places there. This inspires me a lot! And, of course, in Warsaw I always try to find something beautiful, aesthetic & inspiring. Today I want to focus on a local flower concept - Iris Flowers💐 Their floral atelier is located in a very popular district - Browary Warszawskie. The magnificent interior impresses with a beautiful colour palette & thoughtful details (decorated wall, lighting, shapes, mirrored ceiling, wall arrangement with flower vases). Among all this, I also really like their identity (logo, branded cups, wrapping paper, ribbons, stickers etc.). All this together completes the general idea of the flower concept. While you are waiting for your bouquet, feel free to ask for a tea or coffee "to go" in their signature cups to make your experience even more special!☕️ 📯On August 10, Iris Flowers opened another location at Westfield Arkadia (photos: 9-10). This is the 1st flower shop in the mall. It offers last-minute ready-to-go bouquets of fresh flowers at a good price. But, of course, you can make your own flower arrangement from fav flowers. A big advantage of the second location is its opening hours - from 10 to 22, just like the opening hours of the shopping center. P.S. I'm used to ordering bouquets based on my budget & floral preferences. This helps me not to spend more than I planned, get what I like & matches the interior of my apartment! 🌹Rose Garden at the Warsaw Rising Museum (dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 & is a tribute of Warsaw's residents to those who fought and died for independent Poland & its free capital). Next to the Warsaw Rising Museum there is a small Freedom Park, the central element of which is 156-meter Memorial Wall (on which almost 11,000 names of soldiers killed in the Uprising are engraved) where vines curl & roses bloom, and Monter bell is located. 🎨 Behind the Memorial Wall is the Rose Garden with an open-air gallery «Wall of Art». On the one hand, you’ll see photos from the Warsaw Uprising, on the other, interesting murals painted by well-known Polish artists. Roses are symbols of gratitude. Mostly red, the richest in meanings, having strong thorns, they can also bring pain, are a symbol of love, martyrdom, blood... Entrance to the park & garden is free. Closed on Tuesday. Review of the newly opened Italian place - Madre🍕 After seeing the interior & lovely menu design, I was excited to try out their menu. However, I left the restaurant feeling somewhat disappointed w/ the overall experience🌱 Service. The staff were friendly & helpful, but seemed a little overwhelmed. Food. Here's where my disappointment began. Although the menu featured classic Italian dishes on the menu, from pasta to pizza (even on a special 18-year-old hemp sourdough), the execution fell short of expectations. My ordered pizza Fica (w/ figs & goat cheese, 46 zł) was lacked flavor & neutral, so I couldn’t finish it. Parma pizza (59 zł) was better, but very salty (I think the reason was tomato sauce) & nothing special. Also inconvenient plates for cutting pizza. Drinks were good, especially the lemonade. Value. Considering the taste of the food, the prices seemed quite high. While I'm willing to pay more for a memorable meal, the underwhelming taste didn't justify the cost. Interior. The interior is rich in colors (w/ an emphasis on green & orange) w/ large panoramic windows, it looks nice & spacious. But this is not enough. The kitchen comes first. 🔗Even though my experience wasn't the best, the staff asked for my opinion, so I had an opportunity to share my thoughts. To make my experience better, I was offered a free dessert, but, unfortunately, I didn't like it either. I would like to note one important thing: I wasn’t charged for a meal I didn’t eat - pizza Fica. I believe this is a right decision & I'm glad that I met such approach there. From my personal experience, I know that this doesn't always happen in service. Despite a friendly staff, the food fell short of expectations. Prices were high for the quality & long waiting time. With improvements in food flavor, the restaurant has potential, but so far it hasn't given me a satisfying Italian food experience. A new cultural concept has opened in the city - Big Book Cafe MDM📚 This place combines: cafe (breakfast and lunch menu available), a literary bar, an original bookstore & a rich program of events on the literary scene. Big Book Cafe MDM is located in a historic MDM building. Its interior has been revived with a contemporary design full of colors, details and furnishings referring to the original design from 1953. The original marble, wall & ceiling decorations, part of the old mosaic on the floor & a lot of bookshelves have been preserved. Cafe revives & continues the literary tradition of the address. From 1953, for 70 years, one of the first major post-war bookstore in Warsaw operated here🗞️ Big Book Cafe MDM is a foundation that works with writers & artists from various fields. On the first floor there is a lovely bookstore w/ a large & interesting book selection presented in unusual thematic categories. There is also a stage for cultural events which will take place here (or have already taken place). Big Book Cafe MDM is the second center of literature created in Warsaw by the "Kultura nie boli» Foundation. A month ago, the French bistro Krem opened a second location. This time at Praga Północ (first place is located in the center). Praga district is becoming more & more popular. Service. Smiling & well organised staff who greeted me with smiles, offered a table & helped with the choice. Food. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the ordered dish was its size. They serve large portions of food which is also tasty. I had delicious Kozi toast (26 zł) and Croque Madame (37 zł) which was good too. Value. Honestly, the size of the food is definitely worth the price. Especially when comparing similar prices elsewhere but for a smaller portion or less tasty food, this is another advantage of the place. Interior. Cosy bistro with beautiful details such as fresh bouquets of flowers, mirrors that enlarge the space a bit. In addition, there is an outdoor terrace located in a quiet street just across the street from Centrum Praskie Koneser All in all, my visit to this new French bistro was successful. A new spacious (breakfast) place at Fabryka Norblina - Bibi’s Cafe & Bar & my thoughts on it🍴 «We wanted Bibi's to be a meeting place where the staff is smiling, interior is cozy & designed with attention to every detail, and our guests feel taken cared of» - says Marta Motz, Bibi's owner. A review of gastronomic places can be always a topic for discussion and this time I didn’t feel this place📯 Service. When I entered the cafe, no one came to me & offered a table. The general atmosphere was chaotic & somehow disorganised. I stood & waited to be noticed, and finally decided to choose a free table by myself. There were several available tables, but half of them had dirty dishes. I found one that was clean & luckily didn't have to wait long for the menu. But waiting time for food was long - around 30 minutes, no one notified me about it. Food. I had a toast with quail eggs & guacamole (28 zł). Honestly, I didn’t expect a gourmet experience, the dish was simple. But what I didn’t like was the guacamole. Usually guacamole is pureed avocado, here it was half puree & half avocado slices. Okay, why not. But why did I find in this small portion of a toast a very hard piece of avocado that was impossible to eat? The ordered iced tea was also disappointing. It tasted more like water with rose & lime, the taste of which was barely perceptible. Value. Unfortunately, due to my experiences & the lack of any suggestions regarding my feedback, it isn’t worth it. Interior. I think this is the most positive part of my visit. The cafe is spacious, stylish, with beautiful details, sockets for work & outdoor terrace. Bibi's has a very cute logo and waiter uniforms✨ Overall, I think this cafe has the potential to be a good city’s spot. But now I haven't seen both a good organisation & worthwhile gastronomic experience. ☕️Honestly, I couldn’t miss the opening of this new place - Cafe Pląs, which opened on Friday 16 June. |The owners are Maciej Musiał, Tomasz Czudowski & Katarzyna Błońska, who also own another similar concept - Cafe Podrygi, which opened last year.| Let me explain why: 1. Location. The cafe is surrounded by nature & is located at the Museum of Sculpture in Królikarnia. There is a large outdoor area where you can enjoy the summer on a fresh air w/ loved ones, family or friends🏛️ 2. The interior is pure love: high ceilings, shades of beige, 2 separate rooms, minimalistic logo, vintage furniture, beautiful big windows, chic bouquets of flowers, lovely columns at the entrance… & a lot of greenery around🍃 Menu. There is no kitchen. It’s a cafe during the day w/ hot drinks, pastries, and a bar after dusk w/ wine, beer, cocktails, music & dancing. Coffee & pastries were ok, nothing special. But let's be honest, this place is all about atmosphere, so this time I can forgive its weakness. Short history🔗 The Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture is a division of the National Museum in Warsaw, located in historic classicist palace Krolikarnia. The name "Krolikarnia" («The Rabbit House») dates back to the 17th cent., when park was set up as a zoo & rabbit hunting was a fashionable custom of the time. During WWII, the palace suffered considerable damage. In 1964 it was rebuilt to house a collection of sculptures by Xawery Dunikowski & now houses the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture, opened in 1965. Museum houses the country’s largest collection of sculpture, comprising works from the 15th cent. to the present day. It continuous to be a prominent cultural institution in Warsaw, attracting art enthusiasts & visitors, combining serene surroundings, remarkable collection of sculptures & nature's beauty. P.S. A few weeks ago, a new spot opened at Praga Pólnoc, positioning itself as drink & food bar - Trójka Kielichów (eng. «Three of Cups»). In a Tarot reading*, Trójka Kielichów means «spending quality time with people you cherish in your life»; it represents cheerful times, enthusiastic energies & positive emotions (friendship, creative collaboration or celebration). This place is filled w/ this atmosphere. It’s not too big, but stylish w/ a small outside terrace. W/ cute fresh flowers & vintage candle holders inside. I’ve had a lovely experience w/ the staff. The girl helped me make a choice, explaining some positions. Usually in places like this (not restaurants) no one asks about your experience. The girl here asked me how it was & it's such a nice touch to the overall impression. Food: I ordered Polish apple pancakes (racuchy) w/ fragrant lavender tea. The pancakes turned out so fluffy & delicious. A special note to the serving: so aesthetically pleasing. As well as beautiful, crystal tableware, which I loved. This bar can be a great alternative for those who live in neighbourhood (of course, not only) due to its location. Since I have to plan my trip there. *Due to my personal beliefs, Tarot isn’t my story. But I used this example to show you the idea of this new place. 🌳The Botanical Garden of the University of Warsaw is one of 2 botanical gardens in Warsaw. Details of another garden (PAS Botanical Garden in Powsin) I shared earlier & you can find it using #warsawslook_places. The Botanical Garden of the University of Warsaw is located in the former Royal Gardens of Łazienki Park. It's a vibrant & beautiful botanical institution that serves as a hub of education, research, and conservation. It holds a rich history, playing a vital role in promoting biodiversity & environmental awareness 🌿 Established in 1818, the Garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Poland, covering an extensive area & embracing a variety of plant species and ecosystems. In 1965 it was recorded on a list of heritage registers of Warsaw. Apart from its scientific part, this is a place where you can escape from the bustle of the city & get lost among its greenery, discover its beauty and even spot a squirrel from Łazienki Park 🐿️ P.S. In the depths of the garden you will see a small brick chapel (photo nr 5) that was built on the base of a temple that was planned to be built there in thanksgiving for the adoption of the first European Constitution of 3 May 1791. This garden is smaller than in Powsin. But it also has greenhouses, a wide variety of plants, alleys, fewer people & location in the city center. Price: 20 zł normal (same as in Powsin). A few weeks ago I visited a newly opened restaurant w/ traditional Lebanese cuisine - Amar Beirut («the Moon of Beirut»). Located at Fabryka Norblina as a separate building, a three level venue occupying more than 700 sq.m. in one of the reconstructed buildings of the post-factory complex w/ its largest exhibit - a hydraulic compensator accumulator. The creators of the concept are Anas Adi from Syria, Pierre Abi Nader & Wissam El Haber from Lebanon. 1. Service: very friendly, helping & smiling staff. Sometimes waiting time for food was longer than expected. Maybe because the restaurant was busy and had just opened. I just hope it’s a matter of time & they fix it in a future. 2. Food: waitress was very knowledgeable & made great recommendations: Fattouch salad (46 zł) - simple & tasty; baked feta (46 zł) - very delicious; main dish - Tawouk (chicken breast skewers, 46 zł) - tasty, but a bit small portion, I’d say it’s more like appetizer. For dessert there was an adorable baklava w/ ice-cream (45 zł). It tasted different from what I had tried before, but I definitely liked it! The whole meal was accompanied by local Lebanese wine and, from this point of view, everything was also good. 3. This is a middle+ class restaurant & I think the price corresponds to its atmosphere & gastronomic experience. 4. The ambiance of the place is very nice from the vibrant colours to the intricate details with a Lebanese style decor, live music & DJs throughout the week. Spacious & stylish with a magical vibe. Restaurant is divided into 4 zones: 2 floors of the main restaurant hall, a terrace & a roof w/ Warsaw’s panorama. There is no paper menu, just a QR code to be scanned. All in all, I recommend Amar Beirut as a vibrant celebration of life, offering a gourmet experience in an oriental atmosphere w/ traditional Lebanese dishes, sounds of live music & night entertainment w/ a modern twist. 🍴For the last half of a year (from time to time) I was visiting one restaurant where I’ve noticed a positive transformation in cuisine (read IG highlights «Opinion» what was wrong). Dock19 by Mateusz Gessler restaurant is the latest Gessler’s (known Polish restaurateur) place in Warsaw. Located in a separate building of Elektrownia Powiśle w/ season upper terrace that has just opened. Now I have the same good feelings as during my first visits when Dock19 was just opened. It’s good to see business efforts of being better🥂 Service: welcoming staff, good service, interest in you. Food: I think here is one of the best bread in the city, seriously, order at least half of it (there is an option)! Menu is seasonal. I really like burrata w/ baked tomato (47 zł) & new position - schnitzel w/ an egg (59 zł) which is tasty as well. A bit fat for me, but a person w/ me disagrees. On May holidays delicious pancakes w/ salmon & caviar (44 zł) were served, hope they’ll be a part of regular menu. There are also new desserts. I tried chocolate roulade which wasn’t so sweet, as I was afraid. It reminded me a childhood taste which was a part of ending feast served w/ tea or coffee. Good memories. Only Purple Hill cocktail didn’t meet my expectations: instead of being sweet, it was a bit bitter which isn’t something I like. Value: mid-range; due to such interior & taste I think prices are reasonable & worth it. Interior: place is divided into 4 zones: bar, main hall, winter garden & terrace. It’s modern, stylish industrial space w/ beautiful lighting & details, looks impressive! Even at the bathroom there is an interesting graffiti. Don’t be afraid of an elegant interior. A place isn’t just for special occasions or business meetings✨ Overall, I recommend Dock19 for its attitude, menu variety, service, taste, impressive interior & location. I had an opportunity to try any of new bakery goods such as Raspberry or Mango Supreme, but I chose a simple taste of Pain Suisse Apple (19 zł) and I liked it. I guess it’s first time I share a sushi recommendation. It’s one of my fav place in the city - Sakana Sushi Bar which exists on Polish market since 2001. Sakana has four locations across the city. That's why probably you'll not be too far away from a good spot. The newest has just opened at the popular & stylish district - Browary Warszawskie. Every place a bit vary by location, but almost in everyone there is an option to sit at the bar & have a talk w/ sushi masters whose are so friendly & nice. This latest place is a Japanese sushi bar - Sakana Browary Warszawskie. With starters, soups, rolls, main dishes, desserts in menu, but I usually order sushi rolls. A big advantage is an option to order sushi w/ special requirements (in every of its location), not just those from a menu. Just turn on an imagination & tell what you’d like. Sushi masters are really helpful to choose a possible options. Service: sushi masters are very positive & friendly as well as the staff are smiling & attentive. Food: definitely a high quality of ingredients which are extremely important, especially when it comes to sushi. Due to the fact that I’m usually ordering rolls, I can’t recommend you specific dishes from menu, but rolls here are just delicious and fig ice-cream too. Value: not the highest price comparing to other places in the city, I'd say it’s mid-range+. Interior: design is simple, cosy w/ calming colours, not something impressive. But it's a good place to relax & enjoy delicious food. Overall, I recommend Sakana sushi chain. With its commitment to quality ingredients, great service, and multiple locations, it's definitely a very good choice. Due to support of Polish subsidiary ING Bank Śląski in 2000 a non-profit organization was established in Poland - the ING Polish Art Foundation w/ a primary aim to promote & support contemporary Polish art both in Poland & internationally. The foundation supports a wide range of activities related to art: exhibitions, publications, research, educational programs (such as Artist:The Professional (Artysta – Zawodowiec) w/ intent to prepare art academy students from across Poland for art market realities & development options)🎨 The collection development & the Foundation’s activities are financed from annual donations by ING Polish companies, as a part of firm’s global art patronage programme, important to its corporate culture. Foundation’s collection includes over 250 objects (paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures…) by well-known artists & those born in the 1990s. 💫That’s how appeared a special project: ING Poland x Przelew Caffe Grano New stylish place on city’s coffee map which isn’t typical to that kind places. It’s more like co-working creative space devoid of the hustle & bustle of typical cafes, providing conditions for work & business meetings. What makes this place a special one is that all space is filled w/ over 100 works from ING Polish Art Foundation collection. Moreover, elements of furniture or wall cladding were made of wooden waste, and fabrics of the armchairs & carpets, which consist exclusively of recycled fibers obtained from used fishing nets or other nylon industrial waste. Its idea is to achieve a harmonious atmosphere of combining cafe & working/meeting place which inspires by its every corner. Food & drinks prices here are so democratic that firstly I even didn’t believe due to its amazing interior.
