Largest sound ever heard by human kind on Earth The loudest documented sound on Earth was the 1883 eruption of the Indonesian volcano Krakatoa. It could be heard across 10 percent of Earth’s surface. The sound was so loud that it ruptured the eardrums of sailors 40 miles away and was heard as far away as Australia, India, and even the island of Mauritius, which is 3,000 miles away. The sound was estimated to be equivalent to a 310 decibel sound wave, which is louder than a rocket launch or a jet engine at full throttle. Because of this, many cultures associate crows with death and dying. Some cultures in the past believed that crows were messengers of death. In early times, mans' bodies were not buried; it was a common sight to see crows feasting upon human corpses.
