TUESDAY, 18 JUNE TEXT: I JOHN 3:11-24 TOPIC: LOVE ONE ANOTHER I JOHN 3:11-24 NIV 11:For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12:Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13:Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. 14:We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15:Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. 16:This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17:If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18:Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 19:This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20:If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21:Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22:and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23:And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24:The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. LOVE ONE ANOTHER John explains that Cain murdered his brother because he belonged to Satan. Why would John bring the story of Cain as an illustration in a message that commands all believers to love one another according to Jesus' instruction? If Cain had loved his brother, he wouldn't have allowed jealousy and envy lead him to commit murder. Also, hatred is seen as being synonymous with committing murder and no murderer has a place in the kingdom of God! So, how would you define love in the context that John addresses us all? It is a verb displayed through what you and I do to one another. It can also be defined as a noun which expresses one's feeling of deep affection and interest for someone else. So, it is possible to know whether you truly love someone or not as your heart will bear witness. Jesus Christ is our supreme example of love in action and in our personality. Because we choose to love without reservation, the world will hate and even try to kill us. But we must love because Jesus first loved us even while we were still sinners. QUESTION: How would you rate your ability to love those God sends your way on a scale of 1-10? PRAYER: Thank God for His love to you through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and ask Him to help you spread the same love to others. Food for the Day - 2024

MONDAY, 17 JUNE TEXT: I JOHN 3:1-10 TOPIC: MARK OF A CHILD OF GOD I JOHN 3:1-10 NIV 1:See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2:Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3:All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. 4:Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5:But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6:No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7:Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8:The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9:No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10:This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. MARK OF A CHILD OF GOD John points out that it is God's love that makes us His children. The climax of this new relationship is that when He returns, we shall be like Him and even have the privilege of seeing Him just as He is. So, all of those who have this hope should choose a life of purity or living above reproach. This new life should naturally become the identity of the child of God. We should no longer continue living in sin because Jesus has taken away our sins and given us a new nature and identity. It is true that by a tree's fruit, you can identify its species. Also, it is through the life of sinfulness that you can distinguish those who do not. know Jesus Christ. By perpetually living in sin, you show that you are a follower of Satan who is the father of all sinners. Everyone is driven by something or someone which manifests in your daily life. Our lives are driven by our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. That is why we should love one another and pursue righteousness. QUESTION: Looking at your life, would you say that it driven by sin or righteousness and the love of God? PRAYER: Your answer should guide your prayer: Food for the Day - 2024

SUNDAY, 16 JUNE TEXT: I JOHN 2:18-29 TOPIC: WARNING AGAINST COUNTERFEITS I JOHN 2:18-29 NIV 18:Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19:They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us. 20:But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21:I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22:Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23:No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24:As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25:And this is what he promised us—eternal life. 26:I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27:As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. 28:And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. 29:If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him. WARNING AGAINST COUNTERFEITS All counterfeits have one thing in common: they are intent on deceit. In today's text, John draws our attention to the fact that "we are in the last hour" which is characterized by the appearance and activities of many antichrists (vs 18). He explains that the antichrists are identified by their commitment to teaching lies against the truth. This lie is to outrightly deny that Jesus is the Messiah. It is not possible to claim to believe in the Father but deny that Jesus is the Son of God and that He is the Messiah. The Father and the Son are one and so belief in the Father is the same as belief in the Son and to deny one is as good as denying the other because they are one. The way to escape these antichrists is to remain within and follow the teachings of the Gospel. We must demonstrate that we are truly born of God through Jesus Christ by living righteously. QUESTION: Can you identify some antichrists in your community, city or country? PRAYER: O Lord, help us every day to recognize counterfeit teachers and preachers so that we may walk in the light of Your Word, in Jesus name. Amen. Food for the Day - 2024

SATURDAY, 15 JUNE TEXT: I JOHN 2:7-17 TOPIC: LIVING IN THE LIGHT I JOHN 2:7-17 NIV 7:Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8:Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. 9:Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. 10:Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11:But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them. 12:I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. 13:I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. 14:I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 15:Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16:For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17:The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. LIVING IN THE LIGHT Physical light is good for so many things, including life and survival. It is also a symbol of purity and righteousness. We are told in the text that God is the light and that whoever has fellowship with Him will live in this light. This fellowship refers to the relationship all believers in Christ have with God through faith in Jesus Christ. So, if we are in God by faith in Jesus Christ, we are living in the light and the darkness has no power over our lives. The light is the new life we receive from the moment we confess Jesus as Saviour while the darkness refers to living in sin and rebellion against God. Those who live in this light will overcome the evil one and will not submit to loving this world because the love of God the Father is in them. These words should encourage you to live in the light. That is, to live by faith in the Son of God who loves us and gave Himself up for our salvation. QUESTION: Can you honestly say that you are living in the light? PRAYER: Thank You, dear Lord, for the privilege of knowing You and the grace to live in the light. Help me to not deviate into the dark, in Jesus name. Amen. Food for the Day - 2024

FRIDAY, 14 JUNE TEXT: I JOHN 2:1-8 TOPIC: JESUS CHRIST, OUR ADVOCATE I JOHN 2:1-8 NIV 1:My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2:He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 3:We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4:Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5:But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6:Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. 7:Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8:Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. JESUS CHRIST, OUR ADVOCATE John recognizes that believers are not immune from committing sins but will always be forgiven once we confess to God. Jesus offered Himself as the atoning sacrifice for our sins and for those who would later accept Him as Savior. The efficacy of the sacrifice is for all sins we will commit in the future. John differentiates between a believer who commits sin not as a lifestyle and someone who claims he believes but his or her life is identified with rebellion and perpetual disobedience to the teachings of God. He added that a true believer obeys the Word of God and that God's love is made perfect in his or her life. Jesus is the advocate for those who live in the true light through a deliberate commitment to obeying the Word of God. We can live without sinning because Jesus has paid the price and today we stand righteous through Christ. However, if we sin while living an obedient life, Jesus is on hand to plead for us. QUESTION: Do you believe that Jesus Christ is on the right hand side of the Father as an advocate on your behalf? PRAYER: Thank You, dear Lord, for always speaking in my defence before our heavenly Father. I am committed to living as an obedient child of God for Your glory and honour, in Jesus name. Amen. THURSDAY, 13 JUNE TEXT: I JOHN 1:1-10 TOPIC: TRUE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE FATHER AND THE SON I JOHN 1:1-10 NIV 1:That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2:The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3:We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4:We write this to make our joy complete. 5:This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6:If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7:But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8:If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9:If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10:If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. TRUE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE FATHER AND THE SON The relationship that exists between the Son and the Father as depicted in the opening verses of the text where John affirmed that what he received, which also appeared to them, is "eternal life." This life was with the Father and it is brought to us so that by it we will also enjoy fellowship with one another. This fellowship is the appropriation of the eternal life which Jesus brought to those who have accepted Him as Saviour and Lord. This same God is also the light and in Him there is no darkness. True fellowship with God and with one another through Jesus Christ is depicted in the quality of life we live which John refers to as walking in the light. True fellowship that is founded on the relationship we have with Jesus Christ enables the believer to understand that, although he is not perfect and sinless, Jesus is on hand to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. QUESTION: Do you know that eternal life means true fellowship with the Holy Trinity and fellow believers? PRAYER: Thank you, my Lord, for bringing me into fellowship with the Holy Trinity and fellow believers and for allowing me the privilege of enjoying the sanctification that goes with it through grace, in Jesus name. Amen. Food for the Day - 2024

TUESDAY, 11 JUNE TEXT: JAMES 3:1-13 TOPIC: TRUE WISDOM FROM GOD JAMES 3:1-13 NIV 13:Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14:But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15:Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16:For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17:But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18:Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. TRUE WISDOM FROM GOD The writer opens today's text with an open challenge to Whoever claims to be wise and understands the ways of God to prove it by the way they live their life. This can be demonstrated through living an honourable life and doing good works in an attitude of humility. An honourable person is responsible and follows what is true and godly in a way that is respectable in the community. Good works include living above reproach and practical love for members of the body of Christ while humility points to a life that focuses on God and the. provisions He makes available. Living without God's wisdom is riddled with jealousy and selfishness and is earthly, unspiritual and demonic. The life lived through God's wisdom is identified by purity, peace, gentleness, a commitment to serve others through acts of mercy, sincerity and devoid of favouritism. We should wake up and open ourselves to the wisdom of God. QUESTION: Can the people around you attest that your life is guided by the wisdom of God? PRAYER: Your honest response to the question above should guide your prayers. Food for the Day - 2024

MONDAY, 10 JUNE TEXT: PROVERBS 24:13-22 TOPIC: INJUSTICE AS A CURSE PROVERBS 24:13-22 NIV 13:Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. 14:Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. 15:Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place; 16:for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. 17:Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, 18:or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them. 19:Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, 20:for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out. 21:Fear the Lord and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials, 22:for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring? INJUSTICE AS A CURSE There are many in the church today who claim to have been redeemed and possess the truth but fall short when it comes to matters of justice and treating all human beings equitably. Why do we show partiality while dealing with one another?. Self will is at the centre of it all. Other reasons include affiliation to tribes, greed, pride, desire for vengeance, etc. Whatever reasons one might advance for being partial, the bottom line is the refusal to surrender to the lordship of Jesus Christ. The judiciary in Africa is riddled with many cases of injustice despite the shame such judgment attract. Justice has become a commodity for the highest bidder. We are expected to be just and fair in our everyday dealings with family members and neighbours. This is because God requires that we owe nothing except to love and by this demonstrate that we are members of the body of Christ where justice and equity prevail. QUESTION: Have you been impartial in treating everyone? PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, please forgive me those times that I chose to be partial and just. Amen Food for the Day - 2024

SUNDAY, 9 JUNE TEXT: PROVERBS 24:1-12 TOPIC: WISDOM TO BUILD YOUR HOME PROVERBS 24:1-12 NIV 1:Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; 2:for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. 3:By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; 4:through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. 5:The wise prevail through great power, and those who have knowledge muster their strength. 6:Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers. 7:Wisdom is too high for fools; in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths. 8:Whoever plots evil will be known as a schemer. 9:The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker. 10:If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! 11:Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12:If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done? WISDOM TO BUILD YOUR HOME Building a home means much more than erecting a physical structure. That is why it requires wisdom and understanding. Biblical teaching on wisdom relates to seeking God and His guidance and choosing to live in accordance with what is received from Him. A home is a place inhabited by people in a relationship that God is honoured and listened to. A home is a place where quality lives are built and empowered to live in a godly manner. This takes cognisance of the understanding that comes from walking with God and the knowledge of the ways of God as taught in the Holy Scriptures. The quality of any society or nation can be traced to what comes out of the homes that make up that community. The rare and beautiful treasure of a godly home is the children we raise based on godly principles and walking in faith with Jesus Christ. QUESTION: Whether as a child or a parent, how would you describe the home you grew up in or the one you are currently building? PRAYER: Based on your answer to the question above, talk to our Father in heaven to help you build a home on godly wisdom. Food for the Day - 2024

SATURDAY, 8 JUNE TEXT: PROVERBS 23:19-25 TOPIC: THE DANGER IN ALCOHOL PROVERBS 23:19-25 NIV 19:Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path: 20:Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, 21:for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. 22:Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. 23:Buy the truth and do not sell it— wisdom, instruction and insight as well. 24:The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. 25:May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful! THE DANGER IN ALCOHOL Some argue that the Holy Bible does not condemn taking alcohol because, after all, Paul counselled Timothy to "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses" (1 Timothy 5:23). is medically true that a certain percentage of alcohol is added to cough syrups and other medications. In fact, there are certain processed foods that also contain a harmless amount of alcohol. But the New Testament places the drunkard in the same category as those described as wrongdoers (see 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Besides its negative spiritual effects, there are physical, relational and emotional drawbacks associated with alcohol as captured in today's text. It brings woes, sorrows and can lead to mental, emotional and physical injuries and destroy relationships. Above all, it distorts the mind and drives one away from Christ. So why desire it at all? QUESTION: Do you still feel that it is okay to indulge in taking alcohol, no matter how small? PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that You kindly help those addicted to alcohol to surrender to You for total deliverance and forgiveness, in Jesus name. Amen. Food for the Day - 2024

*FRIDAY: 7 JUNE, 2024* *TEXT: PROVERBS 23:1-18* *TOPIC: THE INORDINATE DESIRE TO GET RICH* Is it possible to desire to be wealthy without falling into the trap of being possessed by such a desire? Absolutely yes! The motivation to get rich is very important. Verse 4 says: "Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint." This means that we should not be desperate to acquire wealth at all costs and for its own sake. The lesson here is that wealth is transient and therefore not something anyone should place his whole life and hope upon. When a man's heart is driven by the desire to get rich at all costs, then wealth becomes his master. And, unfortunately, money - mammon - is a cruel taskmaster. God has called us to a life of total dependence on Him and His provisions even when we are privileged to create wealth at any level because "godliness with contentment is great gain." Guide your heart into wealth creation with an attitude of contentment, total trust in Christ and a commitment to live above reproach. *QUESTION:* Are you restless with the desire to get rich at all costs? *PRAYER:* Dear Lord, help me to2 choose a life of contentment, trusting You to protect my heart from being possessed by greed and selfishness, in Jesus name. Amen. *Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA)* *Food for the Day - 2024.*

WEDNESDAY, 5 JUNE TEXT: PROVERBS 22:1-16 TOPIC: GODLY CHILD UPBRINGING. PROVERBS 22:1-16 1:A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. 2:Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all. 3:The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. 4:Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. 5:In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay far from them. 6:Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. 7:The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender. 8:Whoever sows injustice reaps calamity, and the rod they wield in fury will be broken. 9:The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. 10:Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife; quarrels and insults are ended. 11:One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend. 12:The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. 13:The sluggard says, “There’s a lion outside! I’ll be killed in the public square!” 14:The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit; a man who is under the Lord’s wrath falls into it. 15:Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away. 16:One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and one who gives gifts to the rich—both come to poverty. GODLY CHILD UPBRINGING. God ultimately rules in the affairs of men. But we are responsible for the choices we make regarding the upbringing of our children. Verse 6 compares helping an infant to discover the power of his or her taste buds with the ability to eat and drink. When a new born child is to be introduced to food, honey is placed on the upper palette and the tongue to stimulates the taste buds to healthy eating. In the same manner, every parent is expected to make their children godly through sound teaching by what is taught in their daily living. The first influence of a child is the parents. Therefore, parents must be careful about what they do because it serves to shape the child's life. QUESTION: As a child, how have your parents influenced your life? PRAYER: Your response to the question above should guide your prayers. Food for the Day - 2024

*TUESDAY, 4 JUNE* *TEXT: PROVERBS 20:1-15* *TOPIC: THE RIGHTEOUS MAN* *PROVERBS 20:1-15 NIV* 1:Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. 2:A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion; those who anger him forfeit their lives. 3:It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. 4:Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing. 5:The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out. 6:Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find? 7:The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them. 8:When a king sits on his throne to judge, he winnows out all evil with his eyes. 9:Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”? 10:Differing weights and differing measures— the Lord detests them both. 11:Even small children are known by their actions, so is their conduct really pure and upright? 12:Ears that hear and eyes that see— the Lord has made them both. 13:Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare. 14:“It’s no good, it’s no good!” says the buyer— then goes off and boasts about the purchase. 15:Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel. *THE RIGHTEOUS MAN* The New Testament teaches that it is possible to live a righteous life. The foundation is in our relationship with Jesus Christ from the moment we accept Him as the Saviour and Lord of our life. Because of this those who believe are privileged to receive "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe" (Romans 3:22). And we can live in this righteous state by the same faith that we profess in Christ. No human being has the capacity to live the righteous life by their own power. It must be by faith through Jesus Christ. You don't pursue a life of righteousness through the observance of laid down rules and following regulations but through the outflow of the righteousness of God that has been poured into you as an act of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. *QUESTION:* Do you pursue righteous living through believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and living a faithful life? *PRAYER:* Dear Lord, I don't have any righteousness of mine, but by faith in You I'am privileged to be declared righteous. Help me as I commit to living this faithful life every day, in Jesus name. Amen. *Food for the Day - 2024*

MONDAY, 3 JUNE TEXT: PROVERBS 19:15-29 TOPIC: CONSEQUENCES OF LAZINESS PROVERBS 19:15-29 NIV 15:Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry. 16:Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life, but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die. 17:Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. 18:Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death. 19:A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty; rescue them, and you will have to do it again. 20:Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. 21:Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. 22:What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar. 23:The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble. 24:A sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth! 25:Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge. 26:Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother is a child who brings shame and disgrace. 27:Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. 28:A corrupt witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil. 29:Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools. CONSEQUENCES OF LAZINESS Laziness seems to be on the increase across Africa, especially among the youth who are struggling to become rich at all costs without working hard. Some adults are also caught up in this craze, especially with the emergence of online gambling. Intellectual laziness is also on the rise which grossly affects the productivity of individuals, families, communities and even the nation at large. Spiritually, many church members are developing apathy towards Bible study corporate or even private prayers and special fellowship activities organized by the church. In fact, lazy people now harass hard working citizens with their constant begging and even attacks and kidnapping. God admonishes us to resist the temptation of laziness and embrace hard work in all aspects of our lives. QUESTION: Are you a lazy person or a hard-working individual? PRAYER: Take time to appraise your commitment towards hard work and fulfilling God's call upon your life. Let that guide your prayers. Food for the Day - 2024

SUNDAY, 2 JUNE TEXT: PROVERBS 19:1-14 TOPIC: BETTER TO BE POOR AND BLAMELESS PROVERBS 19:1-14 NIV 1:Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse. 2:Desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way! 3:A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord. 4:Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them. 5:A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free. 6:Many curry favor with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts. 7:The poor are shunned by all their relatives— how much more do their friends avoid them! Though the poor pursue them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found. 8:The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper. 9:A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish. 10:It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes! 11:A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. 12:A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. 13:A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. 14:Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. BETTER TO BE POOR AND BLAMELESS Poverty often makes some believers think that God has abandoned them. 21st Century prosperity preachers relentlessly bombard their followers with the false message that it is God's will for everyone to be wealthy. To some extent, wealth has been used as a means of measuring one's spirituality. But today's text states that a poor man who is blameless is better off. No matter how wealthy a person might be, if they don't walk with God, such wealth is useless. Of course, wealth will buy you friends, reputation and even a name. But such friends are like wild birds flocking to the carcass of a dead animal. As soon as they have their fill, they will fly away. A blameless life before God receives honour and glory. So, my brother and sister choose to live above reproach and be blameless in the sight of God because such is the character of a child of God. QUESTION: Would you prefer a poor but blameless life or one of pursuing wealth at all costs even if it means not being blameless before God? PRAYER: I stand in the righteousness that comes from faith in Jesus Christ and submit myself to a life of contentment, whether in want or in plenty, so help me God, in Jesus name. Amen.
