SEPARATED FOR THE LORD
God desires people to remain totally separated so as to be used for His glory.
In their period of separation, people are not supposed to do anything that would defile them. Such individuals would be totally committed to the service of the Lord wherever they find themselves.
In Old Testament times, this was a voluntary decision taken by both men and women who desire to set themselves apart. However, they were expected to deny themselves anything that would contaminate them.
If they got polluted, they had to start the process all over again. However, Jesus' blood on the Cross cleanses us from all sins and ushers us into His presence.
Therefore, we are set apart to live our lives for Him and must work to remain separated for Him wherever we find ourselves.
QUESTION: What are the things that pollute and hinder you from living a separated life?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, empower me even more to live my life for the sake of Your glory. May I maintain the consecration that You have given me so as to please You, both now and forever, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: NUMBERS 6:1-27
TOPIC: SEPARATED FOR THE LORD
NUMBERS 6:1-27 NIV
1:The Lord said to Moses,
2:“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of dedication to the Lord as a Nazirite,
3:they must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or other fermented drink. They must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins.
4:As long as they remain under their Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.
5:“‘During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor may be used on their head. They must be holy until the period of their dedication to the Lord is over; they must let their hair grow long.
6:“‘Throughout the period of their dedication to the Lord, the Nazirite must not go near a dead body.
7:Even if their own father or mother or brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean on account of them, because the symbol of their dedication to God is on their head.
8:Throughout the period of their dedication, they are consecrated to the Lord.
9:“‘If someone dies suddenly in the Nazirite’s presence, thus defiling the hair that symbolizes their dedication, they must shave their head on the seventh day—the day of their cleansing.
10:Then on the eighth day they must bring two doves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
11:The priest is to offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make atonement for the Nazirite because they sinned by being in the presence of the dead body. That same day they are to consecrate their head again.
12:They must rededicate themselves to the Lord for the same period of dedication and must bring a year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. The previous days do not count, because they became defiled during their period of dedication.
13:“‘Now this is the law of the Nazirite when the period of their dedication is over. They are to be brought to the entrance to the tent of meeting.
14:There they are to present their offerings to the Lord: a year-old male lamb without defect for a burnt offering, a year-old ewe lamb without defect for a sin offering, a ram without defect for a fellowship offering,
15:together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and a basket of bread made with the finest flour and without yeast—thick loaves with olive oil mixed in, and thin loaves brushed with olive oil.
16:“‘The priest is to present all these before the Lord and make the sin offering and the burnt offering.
17:He is to present the basket of unleavened bread and is to sacrifice the ram as a fellowship offering to the Lord, together with its grain offering and drink offering.
18:“‘Then at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the Nazirite must shave off the hair that symbolizes their dedication. They are to take the hair and put it in the fire that is under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering.
19:“‘After the Nazirite has shaved off the hair that symbolizes their dedication, the priest is to place in their hands a boiled shoulder of the ram, and one thick loaf and one thin loaf from the basket, both made without yeast.
20:The priest shall then wave these before the Lord as a wave offering; they are holy and belong to the priest, together with the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine.
21:“‘This is the law of the Nazirite who vows offerings to the Lord in accordance with their dedication, in addition to whatever else they can afford. They must fulfill the vows they have made, according to the law of the Nazirite.’”
22:The Lord said to Moses,
23:“Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
24:“‘“The Lord bless you and keep you;
25:the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
26:the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’
27:“So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

TEXT: PSALM 61:1-8
TOPIC: EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF THE LORD
PSALM 61:1-8 NIV
1:Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
2:From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
3:For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.
4:I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
5:For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
6:Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for many generations.
7:May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.
8:Then I will ever sing in praise of your name and fulfill my vows day after day.
EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF THE LORD
The Psalmist had experienced the blessings and protection of the Lord and came to express his gratitude as well as seek further protection from this God that has been so good to him.
Life is filled with different experiences. As we live, we face good, bad and even the ugly experiences. But as we continue to trust in this God who is our refuge, the one who has the power over every situation, we will continue to enjoy the beauty of His love as He provides, protects and guides us onto everlasting life.
Draw closer to Him today and make Him your dwelling place and He will give you a reason to rejoice and be glad.
QUESTION: What are your responses to life's challenges?
PRAYER: Help me, dear Lord, to draw closer to You so that I can get the best of Your plans for my life as I continue to live, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: AMOS 5:18-27
TOPIC: GOD HATES FALSE WORSHIP
AMOS 5:18-27 NIV
18:Woe to you who long for the day of the Lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness, not light.
19:It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him.
20:Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light— pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?
21:“I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me.
22:Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them.
23:Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.
24:But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
25:“Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, people of Israel?
26:You have lifted up the shrine of your king, the pedestal of your idols, the star of your god— which you made for yourselves.
27:Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,” says the Lord, whose name is God Almighty.
GOD HATES FALSE WORSHIP
The attitude of the Israelites in the days of Amos annoyed the Lord because they chose to live their lives in a way that did not glorify Him. They substituted sacrifices with piety. They felt that as long as they made sacrifices to God, He would bless all they were doing, even when it was against His will.
Because their religious feasts were disdainful of the Lord and their offerings a mockery to Him, God told them that He hated all of those things.
It is important to carefully study the way we worship God these days and compare it with the days of Amos. Then we should ask ourselves:
Are we any better than the people of Israel of those days?
Have we not substituted justice and righteousness with hypocrisy?
God will never be happy with a worship that is not rooted in the hearts of the worshippers.
We must therefore check our lives and redefine the sacrifices and or worship we give God so that we do not end up missing the blessings He has in store for us.
QUESTION: How would you honestly rate the way you worship this God you serve?
PRAYER: Remove any form of hypocrisy in my life and give me the discipline needed to worship You in Spirit and truth, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: AMOS 5:10-17
TOPIC: REPENT FROM YOUR EVIL DEEDS
AMOS 5:10-17 NIV
10:There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth.
11:You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.
12:For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.
13:Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.
14:Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.
15:Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.
16:Therefore this is what the Lord, the Lord God Almighty, says: “There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail.
17:There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass through your midst,” says the Lord.
REPENT FROM YOUR EVIL DEEDS
The call to repentance is a continuous one, most especially because people seem to forget the warnings of the Lord and end up returning to the very things for which God had rebuked them. The prophet Amos took his time to enumerate the sins of the people of Israel and informed them of the consequences.
God was going to punish them for trampling upon the poor, oppressing the righteous through accepting bribes and the many other evil things they were doing.
Today, Christians must know that the God we serve never changes and He still calls on them to desist from doing anything that will dishonour His name and cause pains in the hearts of others. This will grant them mercy as they continue to live.
QUESTION: What are the things you do which dishonour God and cause pains in the hearts of others?
PRAYER: Grant me the grace to say no to every form of evil and help me to live my life in a way that honours your name and brings joy to humanity, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: AMOS 5:1-9
TOPIC: A CALL TO REPENTANCE
AMOS 5:1-9 NIV
1:Hear this word, Israel, this lament I take up concerning you:
2:“Fallen is Virgin Israel, never to rise again, deserted in her own land, with no one to lift her up.”
3:This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Israel: “Your city that marches out a thousand strong will have only a hundred left; your town that marches out a hundred strong will have only ten left.”
4:This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live;
5:do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into exile, and Bethel will be reduced to nothing."
6:Seek the Lord and live, or he will sweep through the tribes of Joseph like a fire; it will devour them, and Bethel will have no one to quench it.
7:There are those who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground.
8:He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land— the Lord is his name.
9:With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin.
A CALL TO REPENTANCE
God's love for Israel constantly makes Him draw their attention every time they derail and get entangled in different atrocities. He doesn't want to destroy those that have a relationship with Him, except they choose to go their own ways.
Prophet Amos laments the deplorable condition of the people which was the result of their complacency.
Cities like Bethel, Gilgal and others witnessed great historical events, especially regarding God's dealings with some of their ancestors. God invited them to seek Him and live.
He invited them to pursue justice and righteousness so as to get the best out of their lives as they continue to live for His glory. We must understand that except we repent and turn from our wickedness, we shall be punished.
QUESTION: What are the things you are doing which you need to stop and repent?
PRAYER: Help me, dear Lord, to understand the folly in my life and turn to You for forgiveness. Help me to continue in Your ways as long as I live, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 8:6-22
TOPIC: ISRAEL REJECTS GOD
1 SAMUEL 8:6-22 NIV
6:But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.
7:And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.
8:As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
9:Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”
10:Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king.
11:He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.
12:Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.
13:He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.
14:He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants.
15:He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants.
16:Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use.
17:He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
18:When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”
19:But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us.
20:Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
21:When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord.
22:The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.” Then Samuel said to the Israelites, “Everyone go back to your own town.”
ISRAEL REJECTS GOD
The lifestyle of an individual can change the whole course of another person's life or even that of an entire community.
Samuel's sons indulged in different atrocities which made the Israelites reject God and ask for a king.
All efforts by Samuel to dissuade them fell on deaf ears as they were fed up with his sons' atrocities.
God permitted that to happened, but instructed Samuel to warn them about the consequences, which they accepted.
We must learn to live in such a way that people will see the grace of God in us and work in His will.
We should not make people reject this God that we are serving on account of our lifestyles. Remember, you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:13).
No matter what happens, let's try to live by the dictates of God and not by the pressures of ungodly lifestyles, like the elders of Israel.
QUESTION: What kind of message do you pass to others by your lifestyle?
PRAYER: Grant me, o God, the grace to live my life in a way that others will see You in me, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 8:1-5
TOPIC: WATCH YOUR LIFE
1 SAMUEL 8:1-5 NIV
1:When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders.
2:The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba.
3:But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.
4:So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.
5:They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”
WATCH YOUR LIFE
The things we do are clear reflections of our interests in life, whether good or bad.
Samuel, who ministered faithfully before the Lord, raised sons who chose to do things that dishonoured God and displeased the people they were assigned to assist.
The testimony of their lives in verse 3 was a bad one. That made the elders of Israel ask Samuel for a king like other nations.
The Lord gave us a great pattern for godly living through His words and through our parents but some of us have chosen to live differently.
We hear negative testimonies about some Christians in their schools, places of work and businesses.
As children of God, we are expected to shun every form of evil and live as people of the light so that others can see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven.
QUESTION: What do people see from your life as you mingle with them daily?
PRAYER: Grant me the grace to live a life that will draw people to You and not that which will drive them away from You, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: GENESIS 3:1-13
TOPIC: BE CAREFUL WITH THE ANTICS OF SATAN
GENESIS 3:1-13 NIV
1:Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2:The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3:but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4:“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
5:“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6:When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7:Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8:Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9:But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10:He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11:And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
12:The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13:Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
BE CAREFUL WITH THE ANTICS OF SATAN
God desires to have a wonderful relationship with mankind and gave His terms to Adam and Eve. They were expected to be obedient to Him, especially regarding the tree in the middle of the garden.
Because the devil always wants to destroy God's plans for our lives, he will seek to distract us from the ways of the Lord.
Today's text is about the conversation between the woman and the serpent and how Satan made them doubt the word of God by eating the fruit of the tree they were instructed not to eat. This broke their relationship with God and made them think that they could hide from His presence.
We must always obey the injunctions of the Lord if we desire to continue in a wonderful relationship with Him as disobedience will always distance us away from Him.
QUESTION: How do your respond to the instructions of the word of God daily?
PRAYERS: Help me, dear Lord, to do the things You have instructed me to do, even when the world questions those things, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: PSALM 59:1-17
TOPIC: TRUST GOD IN YOUR CHALLENGES
PSALM 59:1-17 NIV
1:Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
2:Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood.
3:See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, Lord.
4:I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!
5:You, Lord God Almighty, you who are the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors.
6:They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
7:See what they spew from their mouths— the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, “Who can hear us?”
8:But you laugh at them, Lord; you scoff at all those nations.
9:You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress,
10:my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
11:But do not kill them, Lord our shield, or my people will forget. In your might uproot them and bring them down.
12:For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter,
13: consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob.
14:They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
15:They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.
16:But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17:You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
TRUST GOD IN YOUR CHALLENGES
We are living in challenging times. Days when nothing seems to be working, when our lives are targeted for elimination by those who feel that they have every right to do whatever they want. They trail us on the streets and even into our houses because no one can stop their plans. Fear has overtaken us and we seem to be confused about what to do.
In today's Psalm, Saul sent soldiers to kill David. However, David draws our attention to God's ability to intervene during all challenging times. God can always manifest Himself and rescue us from the hands of the wicked.
David prayed as well as praised God because of His constant love that never fails. He is our strength and refuge as we pass through the challenges of this wicked world.
QUESTION: How do you respond to the challenges of this wicked world?
PRAYER: Dear loving father, please show Yourself to us as we pass through the challenges of this world and give us a testimony to honour You for the rest of our lives, in Jesus name. Amen.

TEXT: I PETER 1:13-25
TOPIC: CHILDREN FOLLOW THE EXAMPLES OF THEIR PARENTS
I PETER 1:13-25 NIV
13:Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
14:As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
15:But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
16:for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
17:Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.
18:For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,
19:but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
20:He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
21:Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
22:Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.
23:For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
24:For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25: but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
CHILDREN FOLLOW THE EXAMPLES OF THEIR PARENTS
Peter noted that believers must live here on earth as foreigners, knowing fully well that our citizenship is of the Kingdom of God.
A constant reminder of what God has done for us should motivate us into this kind of living as Peter pointed out in verse 21. Also, holy living should be displayed through our love for the followers of Jesus Christ as outlined in verses 22 and 23.
Our society desperately needs role models of godliness, justice, grace and mercy, especially from those of us who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ. When we choose to live holy lives, those around us will have a glimpse of what God truly looks like.
QUESTION: By the life you live, whom do you really resemble?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You know me and understand the life I live. Help me to represent You well as long as I live here on earth, in Jesus name. Amen.
