THE OLD ETHIOPIAN BUILDING CODE EBCS 8,1995 STATES THAT LIVE LOAD SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE ZERO EXCEPT FOR WAREHOUSES OR SOME SORT OF STORAGE WITH HIGH PROBABILITY OF THE PRESENCE OF LIVE LOAD DURING EARTHQUAKE.
THE NEW CODE STATES THAT A PERCENTAGE OF THE LIVE LOAD SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR ANY BUILDING BASED ON THE FUNCTION IT SERVES.

Addis Ababa is found in ZONE three based on the new code, meaning any building designed in Addis Ababa must be desiged for ground accleration of 0.1g. Which is twice the value that the old code proposes ....a very serious change.
