Mesothelioma with mediastinal invasion CT shows a thick rind of soft tissue encasing most of the right lung. The abnormal soft tissue extends into the mediastinum indicating invasion into the mediastinum. This is a common finding in mesothelioma. . . Mesothelioma is an aggressive malignant tumor of the pleura and most patients have had asbestos exposure (80%). The prognosis is very poor with a median survival time of about 12 months. Patients typically present with dyspnea and non-pleuritic chest pain. There are three histological types of mesothelioma: epithelioid (60%, least aggressive), sarcomatoid (15%, most aggressive), and mixed (25%, in between). Chest wall invasion, mediastinal invasion, and lymph node involvement are common.
