Good Idea: Turn tractor exhaust into fertilizer https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/bakx-fertilizer-bio-agtive-olds-1.6582561 Gary Lewis's BioAgtive.com technology captures exhaust emissions from tractors and converts them into a carbon-based biofertilizer. The system involves collecting exhaust gases, filtering out toxins, cooling them, and then injecting the resulting sut material back into the soil alongside seeds or through irrigation systems. This process aims to enrich the soil with carbon, which can improve soil health and crop production

Good Idea: Be sure to connect to networks you trust when using VPN... https://arstechnica.com/security/2024/05/novel-attack-against-virtually-all-vpn-apps-neuters-their-entire-purpose/ This "novel" attack is exploiting a vulnerability that has existed for 22 years. The attack, called TunnelVision, tricks VPNs into sending your internet traffic through an unencrypted path, even though you think it's protected. Here's how it works: 1. When you connect to a network, your device asks for an IP address using something called DHCP. 2. The attacker sets up a fake DHCP server on the same network you're on. 3. This fake server tells your device to send its VPN traffic through it instead of the normal, encrypted path. 4. Your device then sends all its internet traffic—including the stuff you thought was secure—through the attacker's server. 5. The attacker can now see, modify, or even block your traffic, defeating the purpose of using a VPN to protect your privacy. This exploit makes VPNs ineffective in hiding your online activities, so it's important to be cautious when connecting to networks, especially ones you don't trust.

Good Idea: Animal-free agriculture https://online.eou.edu/resources/article/veganic-farming-importance-of-sustainable-agriculture/ One myth that is persistent, is that animal free agriculture is an untested new age idea... However veganic farming has roots in ancient agricultural practices, such as those of the Maya and other Mesoamerican cultures, who utilized animal-free agricultural systems centuries ago. It is an ethical and sustainable approach to producing food that aims to avoid using animal byproducts entirely. Veganic farmers keep the soil constantly covered with crops, mulch or green manure in order to prevent topsoil loss and nutrient leakage when the soil is exposed to the elements. They practice crop rotation to expose the soil to plants that serve different purposes, such as nitrogen fixation or nutrient mining

Good Idea: Eat seaweed https://www.euronews.com/green/2024/05/02/the-ick-effect-and-lack-of-investment-the-challenges-of-the-european-seaweed-industry Seaweed presents a promising solution for sustainable food systems. Despite initial aversions, it's packed with essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, offering health benefits while reducing reliance on traditional seafood sources. Activists and movements advocating for environmental and health causes can highlight seaweed's potential to combat climate change through carbon absorption and minimal agricultural inputs. By promoting seaweed as a viable and eco-friendly food option, they can drive consumer acceptance and policy support, contributing to a healthier planet and population.

By recognizing these threats, one can take proactive steps to protect their members, data, and mission, knowing where potential dangers lurk allows for better preparation and resilience in the face of adversity. It's crucial because it helps pinpoint possible security risks and vulnerabilities in their systems and networks. By understanding these risks, organizations can better protect themselves by investing in the right security measures. It's akin to locking your doors at night or wearing a seatbelt while driving—it's just smart practice to safeguard against potential threats.
