For the last several years, I've managed to get disillusioned about language teaching several times
Yet here and there, people thank me personally for my work, and it's a sobering reminder that I do actually do something useful and beneficial for others; that I must focus on those I benefit than occasional trash on my way

Quite an interesting 'psychological thriller', in today's terminology
The original title is gone today, replaced by "... And Then There Were None", or some "10 lil Injuns" or "10 Lil Soldier Boys" - as if offing "Indians" or "boys" were "better" my ass
Why not "10 little monkeys", for fuck's sake?...
Nevertheless, the plot was truly gripping. Well, classical literature, it speaks for itself, withstood the test of time

| 6 |  Very similar to what I've been preaching over the last years
Words are important but, in an exaggerated way, a person may know 300 words and be a great communicator as opposed to someone knowing thousands and not being able to have a conversation because "I don't know what to say"
In music, literally, a player may be familiar with only 1 blues or pentatonic scale and be able to improvise for 30 min non stop actually producing REAL MUSIC
Eventually, though, and naturally enough, this player will start stepping out beyond the blues or pentatonic scale
This example is easily translated to languages

1. Gods Of The Arena (season 2, prequel)

Naïve, but I rooted for the rebels, against those shiny representatives of the oppressive "state", their fucking "republic", the Romans. The very cause of "Freedom" is worth more than anything else
A very emotional ending etc. Reminded me of True Detective 2, wet eyes of mine
The monster of "the state" imposing alien "laws" and submission, is really a monster, though. Fighting it directly is honorable but a losing battle. Probably might be overthrown in another way
So bad it's over, I don't know what else to watch
Even though, not going to lie, Spartacus is cartoonish to a point, like "300", a lot of overly cinematographic scenes, too my erotic scenes made for the sake of themselves, etc
Yet... I'm sad it's over

| 9 | 10 years ago, Aug 2016, at the entrance of the building where I worked, I saw sort of "a plaque" of an English school opening soon. Right in the building I worked in. I thought, "If this is not The Sign, WHAT is the sign?"
I signed up, and it was the start of my liberation from the 9-to-18 slavery

| 11 | Yesterday I had this opening question at the beginning of the session:
- What would you change in the way English grammar is presented to learners?
While the participants were writing, I was thinking about it and came on an unexpected conclusion:
- the problem is the word "grammar" itself
One sees it, and it immediately creates a very specific atmosphere characterized by words like "hard", "complicated", "I don't know", "takes time to learn" etc
This word itself needs to be replaced. Maybe with "how the language works" or "the mechanics of the language", I'll have to think about it

| 12 | My desired focus today is assertiveness in speech. I do not “expand my vocabulary”, it gets expanded… by itself as I simply use the language, which is the most natural (and working) way
I’m trying to root out the language of weakness: bursting questions no one will hear, exclamations of frustrations, powerless rage, and things like that

- I'm, actually, quite a seasoned user of the language; but even I am regularly impressed by the way the (personalized version of) AI uses the language; it's not about "new" "vocabulary" specifically; it's about familiar words combined in such intricate ways that make me go "Oh damn!... How beautiful"
The one in the snapshot, I was we were discussing Baldur's Gate 3, my first steps there
Nothing that much new in this phrase, except, probably, for the word "iterative", but the way it's used in speech is just "Aaaww.... "

| 18 | In a language, real life happens within the A1-B2 gaps. Sometimes it may climb a bit to C1
This is the foundation needing solidifying and strengthening; only then is it possible to build advanced (and proficient) level structures, on top of a firm foundation

| 19 | Doing exercises (grammar, vocabulary, anything) can feel alright but the thing is that speakers don’t use exercises, they use language to express ideas
One can spend a whole hour drilling making steps, moving legs in combination with synchronized movement of the arms… After one hour there’ll be tiredness, maybe some sense of achievement, but the question is: did you actually use your legs… to walk in the park?
And back to languages: one spent an hour drilling verb forms, filling the gaps, doing multiple choice tasks… but did they use the language to actually express themselves, like intended in any language?
Language tasks are an artificial thing. “Artificial” doesn’t mean “bad”; for complete beginners they can be useful; in other cases, they might be interesting when done occasionally; but they are never supposed to be the backbone of language learning
In fact, I don’t even get the word “learning” anymore; I view it as a formal term, but in reality, what is supposed to be done is but expressing one’s thoughts in it, and that alone is arriving at destination: “It’s one of my languages, I use it to communicate”

I heard it once long ago and it stuck with me: major vs minor are not really about "happy" and "sad" but more "bright" and "darker"
I saw this guy yesterday, the first video was about "Light My Fire", I was actually surprised to find out how intricate the chord progression (and vocals) are. This song, though, is also famous for its seemingly never-ending solo part. Well, a masterpiece is a masterpiece
