❗️Writing Task 2
Some people think the manufacturers and shopping malls should sell fewer packaged products while others argue that people have the responsibility to buy products with less packaging.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Regarding ways to minimize the use of plastic packaging, contrasting views are suggested by people. While one group maintains that manufacturers and shopping outlets should use less of this material for selling products, others are of the opinion that it should be in the interest of the public to purchase fewer packaged items. In my opinion, both sides have solid points to analyze, and I think the best course of action lies in the hands of the ordinary people anyways.
On the one hand, the responsibility of minimizing package use should fall on the shoulders of markets and distributors. One reason for this is that they have more control in shaping the popular trend of using a package wrap for every single item bought nowadays and turning it upside down. If, for example, the factories and distributors alike collectively start wrapping products on sale with anything other than plastic package, the public will not have a choice but to carry their own reusable bags. While it is also true that plastic packaging is the probably the most optimal container for things like sugar, flour, grain and others, pulling a separate packet from the roll for a single vegetable or soup bought in order to satisfy the needs of the customers is indeed extravagancy and against campaigns for reduction in plastic waste.
On the other hand, let’s say that shopping malls and producers did not conform to the policy of using less plastic package, then who is the ultimate savior of the planet with more environmentally conscious acts? The answer cannot be more black-and-white, it would be the public. If they change their attitude towards and adopt a more optimistic approach, say for example willingly refuse to take another package for the items which they can hold in their hands, the packaging problem would not be so significant. Moreover, customers have the opportunity to use eco-shoppers for all grocery shopping. But again, this calls for a logical question of whether ordinary people are ready to comply with this.
In my opinion, it comes down to morality and ethics shown by individuals because they can see and realize how dangerous their shopping habits can be to the ecosystem with their overuse of packages. Those with knowledge and education about the environment crisis understand this and conform to more ethical and morally correct ways of shopping, such as using a single shopper. The reason why I am shifting more of the responsibility on the public is because the supermarkets and producers are not encouraging the public blatantly for more package consumption even though their shelves may be full of products which need packaging.
In conclusion, although the supermarket and factories do have a strong position in reducing the amount of plastic content for the goods on sale, it is my belief that the public have more ethical and moral roles to play in this regard.

The bar graph details changes in the number of houses sold for more than 5 million dollars in five renowned cities as well as three states of America from 2009 to 2014.
Overall, the highest number of houses were sold in London, while the sales figure for expensive real estate in Dubai was the lowest recorded. Moreover, Hong Kong witnessed a noticeable increase in the quantity of apartments sold, similar to Syndey and three American states, whereas Singapore was the only country with a decrease in sales during the period.
The sales of houses exceeding the value of five million dollars in London stood at 523 in 2009, which then amounted to a staggering 1638 five years later. As for Dubai, the number was at a mere 12, which showed almost a fourfold growth to 46. Marked increases were witnessed in the number of houses built in Hong Kong and Sydney from 388 and 151 to 596 and 258, respectively. However, the Singapore real estate market displayed a fall of 33 in the number of houses sold between 2009 (107) and 2014 (74).
As for the United States, New York took the lead with its figure totaling around 800 after an increase from the initial 476, which was the second largest sale after London. Notably, the quantities of houses sold in Miami and Los Angeles combined were lower than that of New York for both years.

❗️Writing Task 2
“More and more people would like to pay more attention to the famous people who have achieved huge success in areas, such as cinema, sports.”
Why do they attract much interest from people?
Do you think it is good or bad?
Lately, there has been an increase in the number of impressionable people following sport or film celebrities. As they have reached high levels of success in their fields, more public attention is paid to them. The reasons for this trend are mostly related to the value these people can share, and I think it is more positive although not completely exempt from drawbacks.
There are several convincing reasons for this development. The primary one is that people are generally impressed by high-achievers with outstanding success stories. Having accomplished impressive feats, professional actors and sports stars stand to be followed by increasing numbers of followers, since the media regularly makes headlines about them in the news and on social media. Another point worth mentioning is that for ordinary people, these highly successful individuals seem as more influential role models, and thus they decide to listen to their advice and learn from their adages. Put simply, people are aware of how challenging it can be to win an Oscar in the fiercely competitive environment of film industry or become an Olympic gold-medalist in swimming, like Michael Phelps, so following these people is more beneficial as well as interesting for them.
In my opinion, although people’s increased attention to influential celebrities is stimulated by positive motives, the effects may not always be desirable. On a positive note, however, influential celebrities can be a source of encouragement and motivation for the people who view them as role models. Their healthy habits or interests may be emulated by people, resulting in the overall enhancement of their health and perspective on life. One good example could be the world-famous actor in Lionardo Di Caprio, whose affinity with protecting the environment and looking after wildlife can easily turn those who watch him into more nature lovers and wildlife protectors. However, a possible downside of this trend could potentially arise if there is a mismatch in the societal values and moral views of an idolized celebrity and an impressed follower.
In conclusion, indeed more and more people are paying attention to film and sport celebrities with the main reasons being attained values and general interest of the public. I would contend that despite possible incompatibility with societal views, following a successful person is generally positive.

There has been a noticeable alteration in the family structure and individual roles of members within a family. Some of these changes include an increase in the number of working women as well as creation of single-parent families. In my opinion, the revolutionary changes in the family structure are largely negative rather than positive.
Perhaps, the most evident change is that almost as equal numbers of women as men are being employed in the job market. There is compelling evidence to support this growth; although most of the women working are employed part-time or work from home, it is still taking away from their role of household responsibilities, such as cooking, keeping the house, and looking after children. As a direct consequence of this trend, there is a burgeoning demand for babysitters, which is another unheard-of change. Moreover, single-parent families have also increased in quantity – due to the growing divorce rates among couples. These changes are the radically opposite picture of the trends prevalent in past societies.
As far as the effects of this shift are concerned, most of them are detrimental to the core values of family. For one, although women working and earning could help their partners reach financial security and provide for children, their most important role of keeping the house is becoming obsolete. The mainstream rule for society has always been for women to stay at home, take care of their babies, cook, and provide mental support for their husbands. Nowadays, however, this shift in women’s role has caused multiples problems; underdeveloped child nurture, and expenses for babysitters and delivery foods, undermining their family budget.
Additionally, parents’ inability to spend time with their children could harm their upbringing. As has been proven scientifically, parental affection is a must ingredient for the prosperity of child development. When they are left with the babysitter all the time, who cannot emulate their biological mothers, they grow up with a low self-esteem. Furthermore, the increasing rate of single parent families has the potential to alter the definition of families altogether. The reason for this is that the more successful single-parent families, the higher rate of broken families we shall see among couples. The idea of wife and husband living together, overcoming problems and leading a united family might be lost.
In conclusion, family dynamics have seen a radical shift in recent years. The main changes are the increase in female workers and single-parent families. Despite increased earnings, I believe that lost family values along with neglected child support make this evolution a rather negative one.

The line graph provides information about the rates of urban population in four Asian countries between 1970 and 2020, with predictions until 2040.
Overall, the Malaysian and Indonesian proportions for city dwellers show more dramatic increases, while the figures for Thailand and Philippines are less marked, except for specific decades. Despite this contrast, all nations are expected to see an overall increase in their rate of urban population.
The percentage of urban population in Malaysia stood at 30% in 1970. This was, then, followed by a sharp increase of more than 15% in only two decades, with the number of urban citizens being predicted to account for over 80% of the total Malaysian population in 2040. A similar pattern will be observed by the Indonesian city residency, which was at around 15% in the beginning and is anticipated to show around a four-fold increase by the end of the period.
As for the proportions of people living in Thai and Philippine cities, both dynamics are expected to increase by about 25% - from their original rates 20% and 30%, respectively. An interesting distinction between them is that while there was a sharp rise in the city population of Philippines at the beginning of the period growing from 30% (1970) to 50% (1990), the same rate of increase is projected for Thailand from 2020 to 2040.

❗️Writing Task 2
“More and more young people from wealthy countries are spending a short time in communities in poorer countries doing unpaid work such as teaching or building houses.”
Why?
Who benefit more from this, the community or these young people?
Lately, there has been a rise in the number of young people committing to empowering underdeveloped sides rural areas. The main reasons for this generosity are linked to a growing sense of community as well as specific moral and spiritual gains. After all is said and done, both parties stand to benefit from the commitment of young donors.
The challenging living conditions and a lack of facilities are evident across the internet and news today. The observation of such nuances of hard living conditions prompts the young wealthy individuals to take action. Moreover, people’s consciousness of the benefits of selfless acts is growing, which is often seen in the establishment of voluntary organizations. Another point to consider is the sheer desire of energetic and financially secure young people to make a lasting impact, by participating in the restoration of damaged schools, houses and neighborhoods. This is in addition to the opportunity to improve their own professional skills, by for example, conducting seminars to complete strangers.
Coming to the benefits of this positive development, both parties are to gain. Despite the hard work, dedication and financials resources required, the volunteers find spiritual spiritual upliftment in their kind acts. A recent survey, for example, showed that the biggest motivation behind voluntary work for the youngsters is self-fulfillment. Needless to say, the compromised rural areas, and their inhabitants unanimously enjoy from the improved conditions, and their felling of gratitude perfectly conveys that. The joint efforts of affluent Instagram bloggers, who collected enough financial and human resources online to restore a severely-damaged mosque in a certain village, can be an illustrative example of this.
In conclusion, young people’s level of commitment to help with the betterment of compromised parts of rural places is rising. The reasons are the increasing awareness of human suffering wealthy people see and their sheer desire to help. This generous act benefits both groups in particular ways.

❗️Writing Task 2
“Nowadays, not enough students choose science subjects at university in many countries.”
Why is this?
What effects does this have on society?
Lately, the number of students taking up science subjects at tertiary facilities has been declining. The contributing factors to this seem to be the mundane nature of these subjects and unpromising career prospects. Consequently, a nation without well-developed science might suffer from underdevelopment of various fields, and existential threat from outer space.
The undeniable fact is that science is against the will of the majority. In other words, the number of students pursuing a career in science has always been lower than the number who choose social and natural disciplines. Besides, the field of science is often stigmatized as a near-impossible career path, as there is no known boundary of scientific knowledge. Thus, attempting to learn mathematical formulas and theories, most of which are not life applicable, might be deemed as a waste of one’s time and effort. That is not to mention how boring and time-consuming it can be to become a professional scientist.
There are multiple theories as to how a nation without science would be affected. First and foremost, an absence of science can bring evolution to halt. Naturally, all facets of life revolve around the scientific principles. So, if there are not sufficient number of scientists, there might be direct threat to the very existence of mankind. An asteroid approaching the planet Earth can be an illustrative example of this threat. It is estimated that a single rock-sized asteroid or comet has the potential to destroy a small state in America. Furthermore, technology and medicine are two spheres which are intrinsically connected with science. If the latter is not in place, then a society might face problems related to technical issues and disease outbreaks.
In conclusion, science is not flourishing because of a lack of interest in this subject area and its unclear future. When there are not scientists around, obstacles in medicine and technology might make life tough for people to survive.
