Trump’s inauguration ceremony will start at around 12:00 PM local time (21:00 DXB time) when vice president-elect JD Vance will take the oath of office, followed by Trump. After he is officially sworn in, Trump will give his inaugural speech to outline the goals for the next four years. His 2017 speech lasted 16 minutes and given that it’s bitterly cold in Washington today, it’s unlikely to be markedly longer, even though it’s an indoor ceremony. Market update: - Yesterdays price action was dominated by market reaction to a softer PPI print. - Core readings landed 0% vs 0.2% expected whilst headline showed producer prices rose at the relatively softer 0.2% pace vs 0.4 expected (MoM). - Yields initially moved lower, and the USD weakened, allowing risk assets to stage an intraday bounce. - The session then turned choppy following Bloomberg headlines cautioning against placing too much weight on the data point's ability to predict today's CPI. This will be the main driver of today's session. - Ahead of the event, vol pricing shows an elevated front-end with #ETH holding 78v and #BTC 61v. - Both curves fade away aggressively into 3DTE, whilst #ETH's structure collapses 9pts into 28FEB25 tenors. - Long dated collars traded overnight in 26DEC25 buckets where traders sold 180k calls to fund 80k downside. This was done in size. - Elsewhere, #ETH action was mixed but focused on 28MAR25 contacts where call and put spreads were both bought and sold. - Expectations today are for headline CPI to fall in the 2.9% range, with core higher at 3.3% and I expect risk assets to be led by yields. Expect volatility. - Additionally, a raft of FED speakers -- Barkin, Kashkari, Taylor, Goolesbee and Williams are due to speak post-date so markets will watch on any pushback on market pricing or initial reactions
