Investing in Tesla is not a bed of roses. It involves more risks than most investors think. So let’s take a look! 😃😃 1. Production and delivery risks Tesla's production and delivery of its vehicles could be negatively impacted by any number of factors, such as supply chain disruptions, quality control issues, or production delays. In Q4 last year, Tesla produced over 439,000 vehicles and delivered over 405,000 vehicles. In 2022, vehicle deliveries grew 40% YoY to 1.31 million while production grew 47% YoY to 1.37 million. Though the sales growth is slowing, the growth rate is still pretty impressive. 2. Regulatory and policy risks Changes in government regulations and policies, such as changes in EV incentives, tariffs, or emission standards, could also have an impact on Tesla's business. Electric vehicles could remain a niche segment if mass-market consumers don't adopt the new powertrain technology due to higher costs and worse function (range, recharge time, and availability of charging).

With a much thicker margin compared to its competitors, Tesla is likely to be able to afford price cutting without a huge impact on its bottom line, while directly squeezing its competitors’ profitability. Cutting prices is also the move that Elon Musk has been advocating so that Tesla can help to increase market share, make the company's product more accessible to a broader range of customers and increase sales volume. However, it’s not always a bed of roses for Tesla. Give me a 👍 if you want me to share some of the risks of investing in Tesla, so we can make more informed investment decisions. 😃

Let’s compare! 😃😃 Tesla enjoys a supreme Gross Margin of 25% and a Net Margin of close to 15%. This is way higher compared to its competitors like Ford or GM with a Gross Margin of 12-15% and a Net Margin of a low single digit. The reason why Tesla is able to enjoy a much more lucrative margin is because of its economies of scale and its vertical integration of production. Tesla designs and produces its own battery cells and electric motors, which allows it to control costs and improve efficiency. 📈 Additionally, Tesla has invested in automation and robotics in its Gigafactories, which has increased productivity and reduced labor costs. Finally, Tesla's sales and distribution model, which relies mostly on online sales and company-owned stores, also helps to keep costs low.

Many of you voted on your view on Tesla’s move to cut prices! It’s good to think it through so we can understand the business more together! 🥰🥰 For those who are unaware, Tesla announced to cut prices for U.S. buyers by as much as 20%. The Model Y starting price now is around $53,000, down from about $66,000. 🤯🤯 This is at least the fourth time the automaker has discounted its vehicles. The price reduction trend kicked off in October when Tesla announced price cuts in China up to 9% on the Model 3 and Model Y. Earlier this month, Tesla reduced prices for Chinese buyers again, this time by nearly 14%. With such aggressive price cutting due to the competitive EV industry, many investors worry its direct impact on Tesla’s profitability and margin. Currently, Tesla has a Gross Margin of 25% and Net Margin of close to 15%. But the story is not over yet! Let’s compare its margin with its competitors!

The answer is $70 trillions (US) VS $100 trillions (China)! Although China will peak its population this year, there’s no doubt that it will still be an economy powerhouse in the next few decades. And the growth forward will be more focusing on investment and tech! From the current $15 trillions to $100 trillions, China is projected to at least 5-6X its growth! 🥳🥳 While for the US, it’s projected to grow 3X to $70 trillions in the next 30 years. The good news is both countries have robust growth. So there’s a lot of wealth to be created as an investors buying wonderful businesses from them! Most importantly, we need to get ourselves educated and practice longterm thinking for our wealth to compound! 😃😃 Agree?

Here’s my view on Amazon’s valuation. Based on the current PE ratio of 90, it is pretty close to that of 2018/2019, which is around 84 and 82 respectively. So the current PE ratio is only slightly overvalued. And if you look at the stock price, it’s also pretty close to that of 2018/2019, which is around $90 per share. Why does it matter? Ask yourself, has Amazon become a stronger business compared to what it was 3-4 years ago? If your answer is yes, then the current price of Amazon could be presenting some opportunities for long-term investors. 😊😊 Plus if you know how to use options, you can use B.O.S.S. strategy that we taught in our class, to buy Amazon at a cheaper price while collecting premium! 💰💰 Of course it’s not a buy/sell recommendation! Please do your due diligence before making any investment decisions!

Amazon has benefited tremendously during the pandemic as shoppers flooded online. As you can see from its operating income, it jumped from $14.5 billions to $24.8 billions in a short two years due to the demand created by the pandemic. To ensure the company has enough resources and infrastructure to catch up with the demand, Amazon has been spending massively to build up new fulfillment centers, data centers and more, thus resulting in negative Free Cash Flow for the past 4 quarters. But as the demand normalises with the world reopening, Amazon sees its sales growth slowing. Investors who were once hopeful of the crazy growth became disappointed and quickly dumped the stocks, causing Amazon stock price to drop 40% in the past one year. 😱😨 But is Amazon really that disappointing? If you look closely, the Operating Income and Net Income (TTM) fell back to the pre-pandemic 2018/2019 level, which is still way higher compared to pre-2017. So is Amazon a good time to buy right now? Give me a ❤️ to find out!

Many of you voted for Amazon, so let’s start with it! 😃😃 Amazon has been having negative free cash flow for the past 4 quarters. Is this a sign of the company weakening? At first glance, it may seem worrying to see Amazon “losing money”. Its free cash flow was down 871% YOY in Q3 2022. But a deeper dive into the company will reveal some different insights. 🤓🤓 Amazon, like many other large technology companies, has a negative free cash flow because it invests heavily in growth opportunities. Free cash flow is the cash a company generates after accounting for capital expenditures. In Amazon's case, it has been investing heavily in new fulfillment centers, data centers, and other infrastructure to support its rapidly growing e-commerce and cloud computing businesses. This heavy spending on capital expenditures thus has resulted in a negative free cash flow. The key question is, is the spending justifiable for future growth? Give me a 👍 if you want me to share more thoughts on Amazon! Chloe here fyi 😁🥰
