Announcements from the Microsoft Surface Event ➙ Surface Laptop 5 Available in new designs including Sage Green, my personal favourite. The device starts at $999, the same as its predecessor, but only comes with CPU options from Intel - Core i5 and Core i7. Laptop 5 is getting Thunderbolt 4 support and supports Dolby Atmos 3D processing. ➙ Surface Pro 9 Microsoft's detachable and kickstand offering for 2022 has received new updates to its colour design - Platinum, Sapphire and Forest. Microsoft has partnered with design studio Liberty to create a limited-edition floral design to celebrate Surface's 10th anniversary. The more significant news is that Surface Pro 9 now has an Arm CPU option - powered by Microsoft's SQ3 chip based on Qualcomm Snapdragon. The chip has a few exclusive features such as 5G support and an updated NPU that can process 15 trillion calculations per second. The device has a 120Hz display with a 13-inch screen size, also with stylus support. Starts at $999, with 5G edition making you shell out at least $1300. ➙ Surface Studio 2 Plus An update to the Surface Studio 2 from 2018, the new computer has three Thunderbolt 4 ports. Brains on the inside include Intel Core 11th generation H-series CPUs and Nvidia's RTX 3060 GPUs. Starts at $4500. ➙ Apple 🤝🏻 Microsoft A future update to Windows Photos app will introduce support for iCloud Photo Library - so you can view photos and videos shot from your iPhone on your Windows PCs. Apple is going to introduce a new Apple Music app on Xbox. Next year, apps for Apple TV and Apple Music will be available on Windows too, with preview versions rolling out soon. ➙ Microsoft Designer A new graphic design app that's being added to Microsoft 365, it's powered by OpenAI's DALL-E 2, which is an AI image generator. Designer will also be integrated in Edge browser and the Bing search engine. ➙ New Teams Accessories A pill-shaped Audio Dock will soon be available. Kind of an AIO speakerphone solution, it has a 60W passthrough PC charger and four different ports (incl. HDMI, USB-A, 2 x USB-C), "premium speakers" and studio mics. It has a Teams button and a mute button too, coming in at $250. A new Presenter Plus remote device integrates with Teams to make giving presentations easier, priced at $80.
