In some countries, young people have become richer, healthier, and can benefit from more safety, but they are less happy. What are the causes? What can be done to address this situation? It is undeniably true that the world has become a better place to live compared to the previous centuries. Especially the young generation, in some parts of the world, are now better off, living healthier, and can enjoy the safety nets available today, although they don’t seem to be living happily. There are several reasons why this can be the case, such as developing the wrong values as a result of unprecedented wealth or consumer culture that we have today. However, there are certain steps that can be taken to tackle the problem by both individuals and the communities as a whole. Having a great deal of money, either inherited from the family or generated from one’s career, can lead to shaping a materialistic mindset. Young people these days tend to overvalue material possessions and physical comfort more than other important spiritual aspects of one’s well-being. This, however, will eventually result in feeling emotional disconnect or cultural alienation, as they don’t usually reflect on their feelings or connect with people around them to share and learn spiritual wisdom. Businesses and governments focussing constantly on consumer experience can be another cause, as it promotes pursuing a never-ending cycle of new products, leaving people exhausted and mentally drained. When individuals chase materials and only focus on spending money to enjoy life at a society level, they can find themselves running in a marathon that never ends as companies continue inventing new products. Taking Apple iPhones as an example, the company introduces new models of gadgets once a year. Young individuals should focus on developing the right values by doing mindfulness practices. As those practices promote awareness of the present moment, people are able to feel connected to the world around them. On a societal level, policy reform could help to improve the overall well-being of people. The main focus shouldn’t be on just consumerism but social interactions among people when developing a product or a service. Community-building activities should be organised to enhance relationships among people. In conclusion, although young people happiness is relied on materialism and consumer culture, they should cultivate mindfulness and spiritual well-being, and communities should prioritise social connections over consumerism to foster a balanced and fulfilling life. Nowadays because of digital technology it is possible for not only studios but also individuals to produce their own films. Do you think this is a positive or negative development? With current technological innovations in cinematography, accessibility of content creation, especially films, is no longer limited to film-producing companies. Individuals producing their own films, I believe, should be seen as a positive development. Democratization of filmmaking can be achieved with the help of digital technologies. As it gets more affordable and accessible, independent filmmakers can enter the industry and try to express their ideas. As a result, new techniques and methods can be practiced, promoting innovative content creation. Moreover, any independent filmmaker can try to discover and share their culture and beliefs, which in most cases are ignored by major studios, encouraging every story to be heard and seen by the world. For example, a short documentary was filmed by a YouTuber about the Aral Seaβ€”a disappearing lake in Uzbekistanβ€”and it helped to get insight into how critical the situation is. Other advantages are related to easy distribution of contents and networking among content creators. Digital platforms enable individuals to share their work beyond a local audience, making it easy for them to get noticed. This, in turn, motivates them to continue and improve their work continuously. Furthermore, online communities can help to share ideas and give feedback to each other’s production. Such collaboration and networking will contribute to the continuous growth and evolution of the filmmaking industry. In conclusion, the use and development of technologies in the film industry is a positive factor that helps individuals share thoughts, content, and, most importantly, their traditions widely with the world. Also, technology plays a crucial role in building collaborative communities among filmmakers to exchange ideas and develop together. TR-8.0 CC-8.0 LR-8.0 GRA-8.0 Feedback from a niner)
