🔅What is Chardham Project? • The project comprises improvement as well as the development of 889 km length of national highways. • The project will connect Badrinath Dham, Kedarnath Dham, Gangotri, Yamunotri, and part of the route leading to Kailash Mansarovar yatra. Context: Environmentalists have alleged that the contractors deputed by the government to make roads as part of the Chardham project are violating the Supreme Court orders on the appropriate road width to be followed in mountainous terrain. 🔅What is a PMI? 🔅Indian peacock soft-shell turtle: ▪️It is a riverine turtle endemic to India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. ▪️They are generally omnivorous (predominantly carnivorous) and nocturnal. ▪️Conservation Status: Vulnerable on IUCN Redlist. 🔅National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ▪ The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 was notified by the Government of India on September, 2005 and was made effective in February 2006. Under it, the NREGS was introduced. ▪ The Act aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in rural areas by guaranteeing hundred days of wage employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members (at least 18 years of age) volunteer to do unskilled work. ▪ The central government bears the full cost of unskilled labour, and 75% of the cost of material (the rest is borne by the states). ▪ It is a demand-driven, social security and labour law that aims to enforce the ‘right to work’. ▪ Ministry of Rural Development in association with state governments, monitors the implementation of the scheme. join🔜 @dailynewscom

🔅Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan ▪ It was launched in June 2020 to empower and provide livelihood opportunities to the returnee migrant workers and rural citizens who had returned to their home states due to the lockdowns. ▪ It worked in mission mode for 125 days with an outlay of Rs. 50,000 crore. ▪ A total of 116 districts across six states, namely Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha were chosen for the campaign. ◦ These districts covered the maximum number (about 2/3) of such migrant workers who had returned. ◦ The chosen districts include 27 Aspirational Districts, districts which are affected by poor socio-economic indicators. CHANG’E-5 • China’s Chang’e-5 lunar mission became the first probe in over four decades to attempt to bring back samples of lunar rock from a previously unexplored portion of the Moon. The spacecraft is set to return to Earth around December 15. • Chang’e-5 probe is the Chinese National Space Administration’s (CNSA) lunar sample return mission that was launched on November 24 from the Wenchang Space Launch Center on Hainan Island in China. • The goal of the mission is to land in the Mons Rumker region of the moon, where it will operate for one lunar day, which is two weeks long and return a 2 kg sample of the lunar rock possibly by digging about 2 metres deep into the surface of the Moon. • The mission comprises a lunar orbiter, a lander and an ascent probe that will lift the lunar samples back into orbit and return them back to Earth. • The probe is named after the Chinese Moon goddess who is traditionally accompanied by a white or jade rabbit.
