I stream most of my music and podcasts on Spotify. If you're like me, you probably look forward to the yearly Spotify Wrapped lists. For the uninitiated, 'Spotify Wrapped' is a yearly top 5 list of your most listened songs year round. I know it sounds kinda basic but people go nuts about it. You probably saw mine on my Instagram story. Anyway, this is about an artist (that I'm ashamed to name) who made it to Number 4 on my Top 5 list. Yeah, I didn't post that one 😂 You don't need to know who it is. The point is that it's an AI rap artist. I first heard his songs on Tiktok and thought "Doesn't he sound like a mashup of Yeat, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti?" I listened for a while and realized that it was AI. And how did I know? The songs were too perfect. A regular rap artist would have like 2 hit songs, 3 okay songs and the rest SKIP! This one had an inhumanly perfect album. Then I heard one song were he admitted he was an AI. Aha! Anyway, that's how I drifted from the original artistes he was imitating to making this rapper (who shall not be named) my number 4 on my Top 5. C'mon guys. I've given enough hints already, but if you guess correctly, reply this for a gift. It reminds me of when I first started doing webinars in 2015. As a chronic overachiever, I wanted an audio jingle to play before every session. So there was this website based in the UK called MusicRadioCreative where you could type out what you wanted them to say, and also pick which voice actor would voice it. It was mad oh. I wanted a British newscaster to do mine. My Nigerian audience at the time were so impressed asking "which app did you use". It's a human being oh, but I gatekept the secret. Fast forward to 2024, I decided I wanted a whole theme song for our nightly show, Night School. Off to AI I went. Yup, that lovely song y'all have been hearing is by an AI artist created by me and signed to John Obidi Records. Here's the crux of the matter. The time is here when you'd say "I worked on this book myself for 6 months and I'm glad it's published", and people say "Congrats, but why?" Or when you'd say "I spent 15 hours sorting out this spreadsheet". Oversabi! Why? Or "I only made 7 figures this year" Ehen... Why? Let AI handle it. It will do the job faster, more profitably and more efficiently than any human. Don't be afraid of AI replacing you. It already has. What you need to do is fire yourself from what AI can do, and learn to enslave it to cover more ground. AI could have written this post too, but no, leave this one for me biko. So hey, I've made some mad discoveries that I'd like to teach you as your Christmas gift. There’s such a thing as the Spirit of a Nation. When your own spirit is incompatible (or in chronic disagreement) with that of your Nation, you will eternally struggle to find meaning and expression. On the flip side, when your spirit is compatible with that of your host Nation, you thrive. Where others fail, you succeed. Some people do exceptionally well in Nigerian public universities, and of those who do badly, not all are bad at school. Take those ones to a country whose spirit is more compatible with theirs and they start topping the class, beating the natives. A nation’s spirit does not simply change because you wish it to. No, it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. You either make peace with your Nation’s spirit, the good and the bad, and adapt to it, or seek another as others have. I know. I know. You’ve been taught that you must pray for change. That’s comical. If you understood the nature of change, you wouldn’t adhere to promises by political or religious leaders who promise a destination they’ve never been to. What does it even look like? Would they know? Would YOU know? Rather than waste your breath on those prayers, pray instead for the spiritual acuity to discern the tide. The Biblical Israelites were in captivity/exile for hundreds of years and they kept praying for a return their homeland. The most discerning among them didn’t bother. They knew that the soul of their Nation had to do its time for all their sins. Begging was useless. They made their peace with the situation and settled for personal excellence. One of them, Daniel, was so accomplished that he was nicknamed by the Babylonians “Chief of Magicians”. Did you know the Babylonians changed his name to Belteshazzar? Abraham was cut from a different cloth. His archetype is one that those who wish to learn abundance from the Bible ought to study. When he was leaving his father’s house to embark on his mission, he carried along his young nephew, Lot. And as Abraham prospered, Lot prospered as well. At a point, their individual net worths were almost equal, and Abraham never felt threatened by it. It was all a win to him. Instead, after their split, Abraham kept praying for Lot and interceded for him when he learned that God was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. ======= Lessons ======= In your journey, your star power will ensure you cross paths with more Labans than Abrahams, especially in competitive cities like Lagos and Abuja (if you’re in Nigeria). You can substitute these for the competitive cities in your own country. When I posted on Facebook, “Be careful when someone else sees your gift before you”, I was talking about the Labans of this world. Their instinct is to take advantage and make it look like they are doing you a favor. You must learn to unmask them and maneuver around them. The Abrahams exist but are rare. So rare that you could live your whole lifetime without crossing life paths with one. If you encounter one, honor them profusely. And if you do not meet one, it’s fine. Become one. Abrahams see your rising star and their instinct is to contribute. They see in you what you don’t yet see in yourself and they contribute their resources to helping you grow with no thought or concern about being outshone.
