The festival
Dengê min tê te? Do you hear me? in the Literaturhaus Berlin offers a stage for internationally known and previously unheard voices of literature and art in the Kurdish context. The festival takes a critical look at the term “exile literature”. Together we want to explore the limits of exile: Are we already living in a “post-exile world”? The festival wants to trace and show the connecting lines between exile, diaspora and transnationalism and sees itself as a platform for exchange.
It is remarkable to talk about Kurdish literature and exile. Because being Kurdish means, in a sense, being in a permanent state of exile. Kurds are stateless. Their identities and experiences are diverse. Divided into four nation states, Kurds experience oppression, discrimination, persecution and criminalization. They do not have their own nation state, some of their language is banned, and they have no official representation (only in Iraq).
However, Kurdish art goes beyond these painful aspects of exile/diaspora. It is rich in expression, form and content. The festival wants to show this prism of content and forms.
And “exile literature” also has a long tradition in Germany. Through cultural and artistic exchange, we also want to deal with the German past and the violence and intolerance associated with it. We want to look forward.
It's about literature, art, rap, poetry, feature films and documentaries. It's about resistance, memories, diaspora, exile, about Berlin and about love.
