The Azad Hind Fauj (INA) was founded on October 21, 1943 in Singapore by Subhas Chandra Bose, who was also the leader of the government and Head of state.
The INA was formed through a collaboration between India and Japan with the goal of securing Indian independence from British rule. The INA had three fighting brigades named Gandhiji, Azad, and Nehru, and a women's force called the Rani Jhansi Brigade.
The INA was inspired by the ideas of Rasbehari Bose, who had fled to Japan in 1915 and become a Japanese citizen. Bose handed over leadership of the INA to Subhas Chandra Bose in Singapore in July 1943.
