🔆 The New Era of Indian Agriculture & Allied Sectors 📍 Why in News? ✅ PIB has highlighted the transformation of India’s agriculture and allied sectors, driven by higher production, farmer support, digitalisation, diversification and stronger market linkages. 📍 Agricultural Economy ✅ Agriculture & Allied GVA increased from ₹20.94 lakh crore (2014-15) to an estimated ₹52.08 lakh crore (2025-26). ✅ Agriculture provides livelihoods to approximately 46.1% of the workforce. ✅ Foodgrain production rose from 265.05 MT → 376.56 MT. ✅ Horticulture production rose from 280.70 MT → 377.78 MT. ✅ Oilseeds production increased from 27.51 MT → 43.06 MT. 📍 Farmer Support ✅ PM-KISAN: Over ₹4.47 lakh crore transferred through 23 instalments. ✅ PMFBY: Claims worth ₹1.96 lakh crore disbursed up to December 2025. ✅ MSP procurement: Increased from 698.7 MT (2004-14) to 1,229.2 MT (2014-26). ✅ KCC: 7.28 crore operational accounts with ₹10.08 lakh crore outstanding. 📍 Sustainable Agriculture ✅ 26.09 crore Soil Health Cards issued. ✅ PKVY: 18.93 lakh hectares covered. ✅ MOVCDNER: 2.36 lakh hectares under organic farming. ✅ NMNF: 10.32 lakh hectares covered through 18,893 clusters. ✅ PM-KUSUM: Nearly 11.49 lakh off-grid solar pumps installed. 📍 Markets & Rural Institutions ✅ 10,000 FPOs registered by July 2026. ✅ 63,707 PACS onboarded on national ERP-based software. ✅ e-NAM: 1,656 mandis integrated, with 1.89 crore farmers registered. ✅ 12,353 agricultural storage infrastructure projects sanctioned, providing 369.18 LMT capacity. 📍 Food Processing & Exports ✅ Agricultural exports increased from $32.08 billion → $54.70 billion between 2014-15 and 2025-26 — around 70.5% growth. ✅ Share of processed food exports increased from 13.7% → 20.4%. ✅ PM Kisan Sampada Yojana created 294.21 LMT/annum processing & preservation capacity and 9.16 lakh employment opportunities. 📍 Digital Agriculture ✅ Over 10.31 crore Farmer IDs created. ✅ Digital Crop Survey covered 31.3 crore plots across 648 districts. ✅ National Pest Surveillance System: 10,000+ extension workers covering 73 crops and 436 pests. ✅ BharatVistaar: Served 3 lakh+ farmers and addressed 72 lakh+ queries. 📍 Livestock & Dairy ✅ India remains the world’s leading milk producer, accounting for nearly 25% of global output. ✅ Milk production increased by 70% to 248 MT (2024-25). ✅ India ranks 2nd in egg production and 4th in meat production globally. ✅ Livestock sector recorded 12.77% CAGR since 2014-15. 📍 Fisheries ✅ Fish production reached 197.75 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. ✅ Seafood exports increased to around $8.46 billion in 2025-26. ✅ Under PMMSY, infrastructure support includes fish transportation units, vending units, kiosks, cold storages and wholesale fish markets. 📍 Prelims Facts ✅ Digital Agriculture Mission → Farmer IDs + Digital Crop Survey ✅ e-NAM → 1,656 mandis integrated ✅ India → World’s leading milk producer ✅ Egg production → 2nd globally ✅ Meat production → 4th globally ✅ Agricultural exports 2025-26 → $54.70 billion ✅ Foodgrain production 2025-26 → 376.56 MT.

Swaminathan Birthday (7 August) – Full Name: Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan Date of Birth: 7 August 1925 Birth Place: Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu Known As: Father of India's Green Revolution Profession: Agricultural Scientist, Geneticist & Plant Breeder Important Facts for Exams 🌾 Led the Green Revolution in India during the 1960s–70s. 🌱 Introduced High Yielding Variety (HYV) seeds of wheat and rice in India. 🇮🇳 Helped India become self-sufficient in food grain production. 🤝 Worked closely with Norman Borlaug, the Father of the Green Revolution. 🌍 Coined and promoted the concept of the "Evergreen Revolution"—higher productivity with environmental sustainability. 🏛️ Served as Director General of ICAR (1972–1979). 🌾 Founded the M. S.
