MEAT IN DUE SEASON 13/06/2024 Gleanings From The Life of Joseph The Husband of Mary (Part 2) Matthew 1:18-21 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: When his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, decided to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto you Mary your wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Yesterday, we began to meditate and draw lessons from the life of Joseph, the husband of Mary. We gleaned from his life as captured by scriptures that he was JUST MAN. In the context of Matthew 1:19, we saw how this was translated into demonstration of a kind and tender heart. Today, we want to look at another implication of the description of Joseph as a JUST MAN, a righteous man, an upright man, and an honourable man by the grace of God. While Joseph thought about putting Mary away privately, in a dream, he encountered the Angel of the LORD according to Matthew 1:20-21, "But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto you Mary your wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." He was instructed not to be afraid of taking Mary as his wife, and he was told that the pregnancy is of divine orchestration, in essence, of the Holy Spirit. This encounter gave Joseph a mindshift, and he accepted Mary as his wife. However, we read in Matthew 1:24-25, "Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And KNEW HER NOT TILL SHE HAD BROUGHT FORTH HER FIRSTBORN SON: and he called his name JESUS." Here, we see a demonstration of consecrated life unto God in Joseph, who had been described as a JUST MAN. Joseph, who is now legitimately married to Mary, but did not have carnal knowledge of his wife until after Jesus was born. Joseph was able to walk in divine restraint for more than nine months without having sex with his wife. He did not take the legitimacy of his marriage to act contrary to the stewardship of divine trust. Joseph demonstrated a life of purity that could be trusted in by God. Today, sexual immorality is a major issue across the earth, even among many in the household of faith. Yet, we see Joseph as a testament to the possibilities of living a life of sexual purity in the midst of several voices of contradiction. Joseph was not a lawless, ungoverned man. The life of Joseph was regulated by God and not popular opinion of men. The word of the LORD and the eternal purpose of God calibrated his decisions and choices. He did not use the legitimacy of his marriage as an excuse to depart from the divine ordinance of the LORD given to him and his wife. Can God trust you like Joseph that you will not contaminate the seed of destiny? Is your purity quotient strong enough for holy use? Will the legitimate things in your life cause you to walk in illegitimate conduct to divine instruction? Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 6:12 that: "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any". My prayer for you today is that you will be strengthened in your inner man to yield unto God every legitimate thing in your life that can make you illegitimate in the stewardship of your destiny in the name of Jesus. Amen. Debo Adesina Serving Overseer The WaterGate Church Nigeria.

MEAT IN DUE SEASON 12/06/2024 Gleanings From The Life of Joseph The Husband of Mary (Part 1) Matthew 1:18-21 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: When his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. Our meditation today is on one of the extraordinary men we encounter in scriptures. The name of this man is Joseph. He is one of the four exceptional Josephs in scriptures. The other three exceptional Josephs are Joseph, the son of Jacob (Genesis 30:22-25, 37:1-3), Joseph of Arimathea (Mark 15:43, Luke 23:50-51) and Joseph who was surnamed Barnabas by the Apostles (Acts 4:36-37). However, our meditation is on Joseph, the husband of Mary. First and foremost, we need to understand that even though the word husband was used to describe Joseph in Matthew 1:19, the previous verse Matthew 1:18 mentioned that Mary was espoused to Joseph. The word "espoused" indicates that Mary was betrothed to Joseph. This implies a strong binding agreement for him to be married to Mary. Now, our first gleaning from his life is the fact that the scriptures described him as a JUST MAN. He had the testimony of being a man of integrity, a righteous man, an upright man, and an honourable man. Moreover, the scripture describes the nature of his integrity and righteousness in Matthew 1:19, "Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily." Mary had been pregnant through unverified spectacular encounter. There is no way within the realm of our humanity that Joseph could have captured Mary's claim of angelic visitation and virgin conception. Hence, we all must understand the purity and sincerity of Josephโ€™s heart in not initially believing the story of Mary. So, Joseph decided to put her away secretly, not publicly. Another translation of scriptures put it this way "Her husband Joseph was an honourable man and did not want to disgrace her publicly. So he decided to break the marriage agreement with her secretly (Matthew 1:19, GW)." The essence here is that Joseph wanted to dissolve connections with Mary without specifying the cause. If Mary had been exposed as one who had committed adultery, the penalty was death according to the laws of that time (Leviticus 20:10, Deuteronomy 22:23-24). Therefore, the context of Joseph being described as a just man here is related to him being kind and tender hearted. If not, Mary would have been brought to the gate of the city and stoned to death. What is the face of our expression of integrity? Joseph's integrity was not void of demonstrating the kindness of God. May we be strengthened to demonstrate the kindness and goodness of God in our spheres of influence. Amen. Debo Adesina Serving Overseer The WaterGate Church Nigeria

MEAT IN DUE SEASON 04/06/2024 Understanding Dimensions To The Mind of Christ (Part 2) 1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. We are blessed to have access to the mind of Christ through our daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit. In John 16:12-14, "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you (KJV)." The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth who leads us into all truth in Christ. The Holy Spirit, through fellowship, grants us access to the mind of Christ. The first dimension of this access relates to unfolding knowledge, wisdom, and understanding pertaining to things beyond flesh and blood. An example of this dimension of access in scripture is illustrated with the encounter of Daniel with the King of Babylon who demanded from the wise men of Babylon to remind him of his dream which he could not recollect and likewiss the interpretation this dream that he had forgotten (Read Daniel 2:1-49). The wise men of Babylon told the King that his request can only be answered by gods whose dwelling are not with flesh, "The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, "There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh (Daniel 2:10-11, KJV). However, as Daniel and his friends sought the face of the LORD in prayer, God granted access to Daniel to know the dream that the king had forgotten and to interpret this dream. Therefore, what the wise men of Babylon thought was only available to a realm beyond flesh and blood was made available to Daniel. This dimension of access beyond flesh and blood is available to the believer today through a daily dynamic fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Dear saint, may you comprehend that you are naturally supernatural and supernaturally natural in the name of Jesus. Amen. You have access through the Holy Spirit to dimension of life beyond flesh and blood. Debo Adesina Serving Overseer The WaterGate Church Nigeria
