Immigration has always been accompanied by numerous problems. Among them, communicating in the native language of the country immigrants are residing in might seem to be one of the most important ones. Unfortunately, inability to hold a conversation in that language can bring on serious difficulties, both practically and socially. Not being fluent in the target language, people are very likely to find it hard to lead a normal life in practical terms. For one thing, finding a job or pursuing a higher degree would be all but impossible. To enter an occupation or university, most of the time people have to attend some interviews held in the official language of that country. Therefore, non-fluent candidates stand a slim chance of being accepted. More importantly, this lack of proficiency in language can upset your life routines. Imagine how hard it could be to go shopping, describe your symptoms to a doctor, sign a contract, or even ask for help. Apart from the practical aspect, being unable to speak in the native language of a country could drive people to social isolation and loneliness. To fit into a new society, immigrants need to have regular contact with the locals . They need to show respect and also earn others'. To do so, communication is required, the most important means of which being the common language spoken in that country. So, the newcomers will probably never assimilate into the society if not proficient enough. Needless to mention, it is easy to imagine a similar scenario in which they cannot establish friendships and, in turn, feel lonely. To live in a new country is a bold decision for anyone to make, especially those who are not fluent enough in the native tongue of the destination country. Life could be fraught with difficulties for these people both in social and practical terms.
