Repost from BE N BY IAS
There is a tremendous change in the pattern and composition of the paper. General analysis of Papers:
GS paper:
1. It has no structure. No themes. No eliminations. No objective. No pattern.
2. The sole criteria of UPSC this time seems to be to end the so-called coaching wallahs (please remember, BE N BY IAS does not coach, we mentor/aid in the preparation- Our tag line " Get mentored by those who have succeeded") and their mocks or eliminate the GuessMasters.
3. The facts are random and in-depth.
4. Still some themes can be seen though they are made difficult.
5. The Most important- No more options. It's either you know completely or guess completely or leave it.
Bottom line, we need to adapt to the changing winds, the pattern is going to be somewhat similar in the coming years too. UPSC retained being unpredictable.
CSAT paper:
1. One word- The maths is not 10th standard.
2. Reasoning portion and data interpretations are lengthy and too deep.
3. Too many questions from Permutations, combinations, and arrangements--> Which is very unusual compared to previous years.
4. No questions on Venn diagram-based statements.
5. No question on Average, Profit loss, etc well-known themes.
6. Comprehensions are easy/moderate.
The bottom line is, Many who performed decently in GS are testing their fate in CSAT. It is going to be the key to further reducing the cut-off of GS paper-I.
Is it good for the aspirants?
I would say "YES". This gives us a level playing field for us from spoon feeders of so-called big coaching institutions. Their CA compilations, Gists, Analysis, and tips are not going to affect other fellow aspirants. Now no institute will dare to claim that 70-90% of questions asked in Prelims are from their Material.
