The best idea for when everyone is the same
π Brian Thiel writes in his book βCreating Popular Brandsβ: You have surely heard these words over and over again: in the market we are in, the goods of different companies are the same; customers only pay attention to price; and any innovation we create in our product or service is copied very quickly by competitors.
πΉIn such a situation, you can only differentiate yourself from your competitors with the help of a strong brand. A brand is strengthened and distinguished in the following three ways:
β½οΈ1. Differentiation through physical and appearance characteristics
In this type of differentiation, we try to change the technical and appearance characteristics of our product. For example, consider the Crocs brand, which is one of the most famous and popular brands in the world. This brand has been able to reach its current position by changing the appearance of the sandals and slippers it offers.
πΉOr as another example, Gillette has reached its current position and become the world's largest razor market leader with the help of a razor that had a different appearance from the common razors on the market.
πΉOr Aquafina, a brand owned by Coca-Cola, has been able to differentiate itself from competitors by adding new features to water, such as adding vitamins to it.
β½οΈ2. Differentiation through services
In this method, we try to differentiate our brand from its competitors with pre-sales, during-sales and after-sales services.
πΉFor example, consider the Acme brand, the most famous brand of building bricks in the world. This brand has been able to differentiate itself from competitors with just one specific service: the guarantee that our bricks, since they are made of enriched soil, will not break under any circumstances.
πΉOr Isuzu, one of the most famous truck and van manufacturers in the world, has increased its product warranty to 10 years to differentiate itself from its competitors.
πΉOr Austin Store, a provider of various online games, has implemented the idea of ββ"Let's play together" to differentiate itself from its competitors. As a result, customers of this brand, although they can buy the game they want online, prefer to gather together in the company's branches and enjoy a group game.
β½οΈ3. Symbolic differentiation
In this method, we try to focus on the mindset of customers about our brand and create a specific image and image of our brand in their minds.
πΉFor example, consider Coca-Cola and Pepsi, which have been able to differentiate themselves from the rest in a market where their product is very simple. To differentiate itself from its competitors, Coca-Cola has instilled this message in its customers: If you want to live like an American, you should drink Coca-Cola.
πΉIn contrast, Pepsi has instilled this message in its customers: If you want to show off your youth and rebellion and show that you are different from everyone else, drink Pepsi. π #Tip_of_the_day
