Small-cap funds are once again attracting the biggest share of SIP money.
In August 2026, small-cap funds received ₹5,012 crore through SIPs, the highest among equity fund categories. Small-cap, mid-cap, flexi-cap and thematic funds together attracted ₹16,096 crore in SIP contributions.
At the same time, net-new SIP additions touched a 6-month high of 1.3 million, pointing to continued participation from retail investors. Business Standard.
But there’s an important takeaway: being the most popular category doesn't automatically make it the right category for every investor. SIP is a disciplined way to invest, but the underlying fund category still determines the risk you take.
