ICTS summer course aims to give a broad perspective on science for undergraduate and postgraduate students. These courses are based on current research organized every summer. The details of this year's summer course are as follows: Title : Dynamics of biological systems Speaker : Dr. Akshit Goyal (ICTS-TIFR) and Dr. Brato Chakrabarti (ICTS-TIFR) Schedule : May 2024 - 22, 24, 29, 31 June 2024 - 12, 14, 19, 21 Time : 11:00 am - 01:00 pm (lectures/tutorials/discussions) Venue : Emmy Noether Seminar Room, ICTS Campus, Bengaluru Description : In this summer course, undergraduates will delve into the fascinating world of biological dynamics. We will explore how tools from physics can help explain the behaviours of complex living systems. We will understand what is required for predator-prey populations to oscillate, for multi-species ecosystems to show chaos, and for microscopic organisms to swim. Using principles from nonlinear dynamics, statistical physics, and fluid dynamics, students will learn to model and predict phenomena like species competition, population catastrophes, bacterial motility, and collective behaviour in fluidic environments. The course will be pedagogical in nature and assume no biological knowledge, and is aimed at introducing students to biological physics. We're receiving frequent messages from MSc and PhD graduates in Physics from top institutes, asking about job opportunities in our institute. *NET scores can be used for PhD admissions from 2024-25 session, decides UGC* The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided that the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores can be used for PhD admissions starting from the academic session 2024-25. The decision has been taken to help students with one national entrance test as part of the National Education Policy, the commission said. Students will no longer be required to sit for multiple PhD entrance tests conducted by different institutions.
