I love watching the little chickadees bounce through the garden under the strawberry leaves, as if they're exploring an ancient forest, and fluttering from spot to spot, nibbling on bugs and berries, knowing that they live on a heavenly earth, each day excited as the next, bouncing from leaf to soil, finding pockets of water pooled up in a rhubarb leaf, and seeking shade under its gigantic protection. -M Garden musings 2026 Aug

Evidence of Plant Intelligence - The Bizarre Polarity of Plants - Rupert Sheldrake "It has long been thought that plants do not have the capacity to think because they don't have a brain or a central nervous system. But little is known about plant consciousness, let alone our own consciousness. In this episode, Rupert Sheldrake, PhD, presents the curious phenomenon of polarity in plants. There is a natural, inherent polarity in plants that is expressed in roots and shoots, but the polarity is present all the way down to the cellular level. Rupert Sheldrake demonstrates a number of experiments that detail just how bizarre this polarity is. His experiments focus on Auxin, the principal growth hormone in plants, and reveal that polarity has nothing to do with gravity, cell division or age. There is a mysterious influence that acts within plants that pushes auxin in one direction, from the shoots towards the roots. Moved the cattle to a new paddock yesterday (like every day) and it just amazes me at how much the regenerative approach changes things. The first picture is from a video I made a couple years ago on how to connect hard fencing. Look at the ground and the grass in the back ground. Thats the same pasture (just viewed from outside the fence vs inside) as the second picture. No fertilizer. No herbicides. Just regenerative agriculture practices with animals on it for only 2 years. Wow!

The Interrelations of Humming Birds & Spiders Spiders play an amazing role in the interconnectedness of nature & soil life. During spider season outdoors it is important to leave some webs up to help out and support not just the balance of insects but surprisingly to help our hummingbird pollinators. Our beautiful hummingbirds use spiderwebs as material to build its lightweight, flexible nest. Hummingbirds will gather the spider's web and use it to bind their nest to a branch, or shrub, and will use the silk web to hold other materials like feathers, fur, lichen and fluff from trees when constructing their nests. The spider's web included in the nest construction allows added strength for when hummingbird babies are born and begin to grow. This integration of webbing allows the nest to have expansion ability with the growing birds. Natural Farming — Those happy moments Harvesting food from our garden and the immense joy that comes with it is one of my most cherished happy moments. Every time I discover a special treasure among the plants — potatoes hidden in the soil, berries tucked away beneath the leaves, or a cucumber we never planted but that grew from seeds left behind from last year — I feel like a child in an exquisite paradise.
