"Why are you not moving abroad?". How to deal with relatives/friends/neighbors who ask that question?
I am a guy in my late twenties who is working in a senior engineering role at a Nasdaq-listed Indian product tech company. We don't have an office in Kerala, so I work mostly remotely from my home in a city in Kerala and make occasional visits to our company office in a metro city in a neighboring state.
I don't want to reveal much about my salary/benefits/perks, but I can say it's more than adequate. Given my career trajectory, I might reach the 1 crore salary mark in a few years (this is just a projection, nothing is certain).
All of this is OK until I talk to someone who tells me that what I'm doing is wrong and that I shouldn't stay in Kerala and should leave the country immediately.
People frequently give me the general reasons behind this in a casual manner. Some argue that Kerala's demographic change (an increase in the number of a specific community) will make the state unsafe, while others argue that the religious nationalism in power at the Centre will be problematic for the state's future, and some others argue that the state's communist regime will continue to make job opportunities worse.
Since the above opinions are mostly based on one's own political inclinations, I choose to ignore them, but there are some specific reasons people argue strongly, and below are some of those.
1. Matrimonial prospects \- "you would not get good marriage proposals if you lived in Kerala or India, you need to move abroad. A guy working a part-time job in a western country will have better matrimonial prospects than a surgeon, tech entrepreneur, or bureaucrat living in Kerala"
2. Reservation \- "you belong to the general category so your future children wouldn't get admission in any of the premier intuitions like IITs or government medical colleges since most seats will be reserved (Caste Reservation). But if you move abroad, for example, to the United States, your kids will be able to attend good universities"
3. Respect in society and family \- "NRIs have more respect and honour in society and family than people living in Kerala regardless of job, education, wealth and other factors. A person is considered to be successful only if they move out of the country"
Sorry for the long post/rant.

Retirement Planning For Dad
My Dad is going to retire from govt service as an Executive Engineer this year. Been in service since last 35 years. He is a honest officer in service and a man of values and integrity. Can someone suggest what he can do after retirement to keep him engaged? When i asked him to see if consulting for private construction projects is feasible he says "people will use it as a free service only, if he charge a fee they may say he is greedy" so he is not interested in that. He is a civil engineering diploma holder and has great knack for solving quantitative/mathematical aptitude questions. He taught me Engineering Graphics and Engineering mechanics while i was in my B Tech fist year

Do you feel Trivandrum city has become more congested recently?
I have been a resident of Tvm for long and I feel the city has become too populated and congested in the last 2-3 years. Most of the days traffic seems to be an issue and all public places are crowded which did not used to be the case before. I also see a lot of people especially from Central Kerala like Kottayam and Idukki moving here. Is this something only I had observed or has this been a developing trend in the past few years. Also is this something that has been happening in other places like Kochi as well.

Why are young boys and girls of kerala admire and worship (shit) influencers like Mrz Thoppi and dr chromental ?
I just watched Thoppi's videos....i found it sad and the guy clearly has some mental issues. I don't understand why kids these day follow like he is some god even though he treats them like shit on calls.

Considering switching to an electric scraper since I'm done with the manual one. Haven't heard much about electric ones – any risks? Any recommendations from your end?

I would like to settle and live in Kerala after retirement. Do you see any risks or hurdles in my case?
Happy new year Friends!
I am Marathi (Maharashtrian) person currently residing in the USA, enamored by nature's wonders. My heart has found solace in the captivating beauty of 'God's own country,' Kerala. A self-proclaimed beach lover, I relish spending my time in the embrace of nature, indulging in activities like hiking and walking, cherishing the idea of leading a simple and tranquil life in my retirement.
My retirement aspirations include immersing myself in social service - contributing to communities, sharing my skills freely, and embracing the local culture and traditions. While I may not speak Malayalam fluently at the moment, I am dedicated to putting in the effort to learn and understand the language.
I have a few questions and concerns that I would greatly appreciate your insights on:
1. Living in Kerala: Is it feasible for someone like me, who is not familiar with the language, to settle and thrive in Kerala? Are there any important aspects I should be aware of beyond the language barrier?
2. Land Purchase: Considering my love for travel and nature exploration, I am contemplating buying around 1 acre of land to build my home. What are the recommended locations for such a venture? I am particularly interested in areas like Kannur, Thrissur, Kochi (preferably north to mid Kerala). Any factors I should consider, and what would be a reasonable budget for such land?
3. Living Factors: As I embark on this journey, what challenges should I anticipate living in Kerala? Are there any potential issues or risks for someone not deeply involved in local politics and without strong religious affiliations? My intention is to live peacefully, respecting others' beliefs while exploring various cultural and religious sites out of curiosity, not religious practice.
4. Real Estate Recommendations: I am in the early stages of reaching out to real estate agents to understand the market, locations, and budget ranges for land or a house with land. Do you have any recommendations or insights that could aid me in this process?
Your local knowledge, expertise, and guidance are invaluable to me as I embark on this exciting chapter of my life. I have a fallback location in mind, but Kerala holds a special place in my heart, making it my preferred choice.
Looking forward to hearing from the local community, experts, and anyone willing to share their insights on this venture.
