Call for Papers The Ethiopian Journal of Higher Education (EJHE), published by the Institute of Educational Research at Addis Ababa University, is dedicated to disseminating findings from scientific inquiries related to the higher education landscape. Since its inception, the journal has published twelve issues across six volumes, with Volume 7, No. 1 currently in the process of publication. The editorial board is now soliciting manuscripts for publication in EJHE Volume 7, No. 2. We also welcome book reviews, commentaries, and case studies related to higher education. Call for Post Doctoral Fellowship The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) in the College of Social Sciences at Addis Ababa University is implementing a collaborative project on Governance for Sustainable Development (SustGOV) together with the University of Oslo (Norway) and the University of Malawi. The project is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) through its NORHED-II program. Please See The Full Call below:

AAU and Institute for Cooperation and Language Agree to Promote Portuguese Language and Culture Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Camões Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua (Camões — Institute for Cooperation and Language) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish conditions for the promotion and provision of the Portuguese language and culture studies at AAU. According to the agreement, AAU will promote Portuguese studies through courses, conferences, meetings, publications, exchanges and research. AAU will Further ensure the logistical conditions necessary for the proper professional functioning of teaching the Portuguese language and culture, as well as the provision of other needs such as the availability of working space and access to libraries. For its part, Camões — Institute for Cooperation and Language will be committed to bear all the financial costs to run the program, provide scientific and pedagogical support, promote scientific and cultural events at AAU, and consider awarding scholarships with priority being given to Ethiopian candidates wishing to pursue studies in the field of Portuguese Language and Culture Education. The MoU will be effective as of the date of its signing having an intended duration of three years with possible renewal, modification or adaption in the interest of both signatories in accordance with the legal status corresponding to it. Samuel Kifle (PhD), Interim President of Addis Ababa University and H.E. Nuno Sampaio, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal signed the agreement at the Office of the AAU President.

AAU, Tianjin University of Technology and Education Leaders Hold Talks on Further Strengthening Strategic Ties A high level Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE) delegation, led by Professor Zhang Jingang, met and held deliberations with the presidential team of Addis Ababa University on enhancing collaboration in science and technology education at the President’s office on the 24th of October 2024. Samuel Kifle (PhD), President of AAU, welcomed and told the delegation that AAU holds in high regard the bilateral cooperation with Tianjin University of Technology and Education. AAU is keen to have both staff and student exchange programs in the bilateral agreement, the President also said. Professor Zhang Jingang, Chairman of the University Council of TUTE, stated that the objective of the visiting delegation is to deeper the cooperation especially in the areas of construction and research. Jeilu Oumer (PhD), Academic Vice President of AAU, for his part said the cooperation between the two universities is set to prove fruitful, citing as aa success story the Confucius Institute in AAU and the rising demand for Chinese language education it is trying to meet. The AVP added that AAU has conducted reviews of it’s undergraduate engineering and technology programs and hopes that TUTE would contribute to enriching the flagship university ‘s revised offerings.

AAU, JICA Host Next Innovation with Japan (NINJA) Startup Acceleration Training On October 22, 2024, the Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer Office of Addis Ababa University, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, hosted a 10-day training for university students at the Eshetu Chole Hall. Solomon Kiros, PhD, the Director for University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer, articulated that a memorandum of understanding has been signed between JICA, AAU, and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. He said the agreement aims to introduce capacity-building initiatives focused on innovation, incubation, and startups. He noted that the program is designed to provide students with technical training, thereby significantly enhancing their entrepreneurial mindset and fostering their development as business-oriented graduates. Dr Solomon further stated that the training aims to equip students with knowledge that will be advantageous to the nation across various sectors, including education, tourism, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and information and communication technology (ICT). He mentioned that one hundred and fifteen students from different divisions of Addis Ababa University submitted proposals, of whom the top eighteen who presented the most innovative proposals successfully completed the incubation and startup training. Dr. Hailu Elias, the Dean of the College of Business and Economics, stated that Addis Ababa University is undergoing unprecedented transformation, adding the university ‘s new strategic plan aims to produce entrepreneurial graduates. Betelihem Zewdie, the Director of R & D Group Ethiopia, emphasized that the program serves as a training initiative designed to assist students in transforming their business concepts into strategic plans, as well as effectively identifying and organizing their marketing systems and customer bases. It was mentioned that in addition to Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology, Mekele and Jimma Universities will participate in the trainings.
