Is the history written by the victors?! Then, does it make it true?!
History provides the perfect learning opportunity to not repeat thoughts, speeches and actions that cause harm to yourself, others and the world around you. But how can we assure ourselves that history has been accurately recorded so that we can learn from those mistakes? It is actually quite simple. We can choose not to believe that history is being presented to us as a truth in or of itself. We can look at the effects of thinking, speaking and acting in unhelpful ways and resolve not to repeat that same behaviour ourselves.
Although preceding causes and conditions give rise to the effect, it is only the effect that provides the perfect learning opportunity, as the preceding causes and conditions will vary because of their subjective nature.
Living in this moment provides the perfect opportunity to learn from the unhelpful thoughts, speeches and actions of the past in order that any future is based on helpful thoughts, speeches and actions.

We can’t let go of thinking; it’s just part of being human. But we can choose not to get caught up in our thoughts. When we allow our thoughts to flow through us without attaching to them or analyzing them, we create space for peace and clarity.

Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of man who can fabricate it. (Hannah Arendt)

When encountering concepts, we might transmit them through some unrealistic filters. We may call this labelling. Making labels for concepts of past, present or future, causes the mind to worry. In this state, we would not be able to live in this moment which is the source of happiness.

The sooner you realize that your outer purpose cannot give you lasting fulfillment, the better. When you have seen the limitations of your outer purpose, you give up your unrealistic expectation that it should make you happy, and you make it subservient to your inner purpose. (Eckhart Tolle)
