When we begin to turn our attention inward and practice with ourselves, we very quickly encounter everything within us that is not yet in agreement with this process — shame, beliefs, expectations, fears, old patterns, and things that have been held in the body through our personal biography. The practice begins to bring these things into awareness. And this is where transformation begins: not by forcing anything to change, but by feeling, listening, allowing and gradually releasing what no longer belongs to us. Over time, something begins to shift. Self-acceptance becomes self-listening. As our capacity to feel becomes more refined, we begin to hear ourselves in subtler and subtler ways — through emotions, thoughts, sensations, impulses and eventually through something that exists beyond words: our own inner energy. We begin to develop a deeper sense of self-affinity — a natural, effortless connection with the deeper energetic places within ourselves. And this, for me, is one of the meanings of the Rose.
