Our community dialogue sessions in Hawassa and Yirgalem continue to create a powerful impact! In Yirgalem, after discussions on Mestawete (መስታውቴ), family planning, gender equality, and GBV awareness, mothers have made the life-changing decision to abandon female genital mutilation (FGM) for their daughters. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Talita team for their invaluable contributions. Meanwhile, in Hawassa, after six sessions covering Mestawete, GBV awareness, family planning, sisterhood, and positive masculinity, participants are now reporting GBV cases and accessing free legal aid support. One case has already entered the court process with the help of the Hawassa University Free Legal Aid Center. We are excited to continue these sessions for a total of 12 weeks in both cities. " የሞት ፍርድ ተፈርዶበታል ! " የ17 አመት ታዳጊ በሆነችው አዶናይት ይሄይስ ላይ የአስገድዶ መድፈርና የግድያ ወንጀል የፈፀመው ተከሳሽ የሞት ፍርድ ተወሰነበት። የወንጀል ድርጊቱ የተፈፀመው በአራዳ ክፍለ ከተማ ወረዳ 8 ክልል ልዩ ቦታው 15 ሜዳ ተብሎ ከሚጠራው አካባቢ ነው። የወንጀሉ ሰለባ የሆነችው የ17 አመት እድሜ ያላት አዶናይት ይሄይስ የተከሳሽ ሚካኤል ሽመልስ የፍቅረኛው ልጅ ነበረች። መስከረም 19 ቀን 2015 ዓ/ም ከቀኑ 6:00 ሰአት ሲሆን ታዳጊ አዶናይት ይሄይስ መኖሪያ ቤቷ እያለች ተከሳሽ " ለምን አስገድዶ ደፈረኝ ብለሽ ለፖሊስ ክስ መሰረትሽ " በሚል ሰበብ በቢላዋ የተለያየ የሰውነት ክፍሏን 16 ቦታ በመውጋት ምንም እንዳልተፈጠረ ወደ መኖሪያ ቤቱ በመሄድ ልብሱን በመቀየር ሊሰወር ሲሞክር በአካባቢው ማህበረሰብ እና በወንጀል መከላከል ስራ ላይ በነበሩ የፖሊስ አባላት ሊያዝ ችሏል። ፖሊስም በተያዘው ተከሳሽ ላይ ባደረገው ምርመራ ከ2005 እስከ 2007 ዓ.ም ባልታወቀ ጊዜና ሰዓት ታዳጊዋን " ነይ ሱቅ ልላክሽ " እና ሌሎች ማታለያዎችን እየተጠቀመ በመኖሪያ ቤቱ በተደጋጋሚ የአስገድዶ መድፈር ወንጀል ሲፈፅምባት የቆየ መሆኑንና በወቅቱ እድሜዋ በግምት 10 አመቷ እንደነበረ የምርመራ መዝገቡ ያስረዳል፡፡ ግለሰቡ የእናቷ የፍቅር ጓደኛ የነበረ ሲሆን ይህንን አፀያፊ ድርጊት ለአንድ ሰው ብትናገሪ እናት እና አባትሽን እገላለሁ እያለ ሲያስፈራት የቆየ ስለመሆኑ የሚዘረዝረው የምርመራ መዝገቡ በተጨማሪም ሟችን " በሞባይል ካሜራ ቪዲዮ ቀርጬሻለሁ በሚዲያ እና በቴሌግራም እለቀዋለሁ " እያለ ለአመታት የአስገድዶ መድፈር ወንጀል ሲፈፅምባት መቆየቱንና በዚህም ታዳጊዋ ከተከሳሽ በመፀነሷ ፅንሱን እንድታስወርድ ማድረጉን የተከሳሽ የምርመራ መዝገብ ያስረዳል። ፖሊስ ባከናወነው ተጨማሪ የምርመራ ስራ ተከሳሽ ሚካኤል ሽመልስ የወንጀል ድርጊቱን መፈፀሙን አምኖ ቦታው ድረስ በመሄድ መርቶ ያሳየ ሲሆን የምርመራ መዝገቡን በማደራጀትና በማጠናቀቅ ለዓቃቤ ህግ በመላክ ክስ ተመስርቶበታል። የወንጀል መዝገቡን ሲከታተል የቆየው የፌደራል ከፍተኛ ፍርድ ቤት ልደታ ምድብ 2ኛ ወንጀል ችሎት ታህሳስ 25 ቀን 2017 ዓ/ም በዋለው ችሎት ተከሳሽ ሚካኤል ሽመልስ ጥፋተኛ ሆኖ በመገኘቱ #የሞት_ቅጣት እንዲቀጣ እና የዘወትር ህዝባዊ መብቶቹ እንዲሻሩ ውሳኔ አስተላልፎበታል፡፡ #AddisAbabaPolice @tikvahethiopia

በአማራ ክልል በሚደረገዉ ግጭት ምክንያት ትምህርት መከታተል ያልቻሉ ልጃገረዶች እያገቡ መሆኑን ወላጆችና መምህራን አስታወቁ።ወላጆችና መምህራን እንደሚሉት በክልሉ ትምህርት ለማቋረጥ የሚገደዱ ተማሪዎች በተለይም የልጃገረዶች ቁጥር እየጨመረ ነዉ። የአማራ ክልል የሴቶችና ህፃናት ቢሮም ችግር ያለዉን የልጃገረዶች ትምህርት ማቋረጥ ሊኖር እንደሚችል ገልጧል።ይሁንና በክልሉ ባለው የፀጥታ መታወክ ምክንያት ቢሮዉ የተጣራ መረጃ ማግኘት እንዳልቻለ አመልክቷል። አስተያየት ሰጪዎቹ እንደሚሉት በክልሉ ባለው የሠላም እጦት ምክንያት ብዙዎቹ ተማሪዎች ትምህርት በማቋረጥ የተለያዩ አማራጮችን እየወሰዱ ነው። አንዳንዶቹ ስደትን ሲመርጡ ሌሎች ደግሞ ትዳርን መርጠዋል። በምስራቅ ጎጃም ዞን የእነማይ ወረዳ ነዋሪ ለዶይቼቬሌ እንደገለጡት በርካታ ልጃገረዶች በትምህርት ተስፋ በመቁረጥ አማራጭ ያሉትን እርምጃ እየወሰዱ ነው። ትምህርት በመቋረጡ ተስፋ መቁረጥ በተማሪዎች ዘንድ መኖሩን የሚናገሩት እኚህ አስተያየት ሰጪ፣ ልጃገረዶች ትዳርን እየመረጡ እንደሆነ ተናግረዋል፣ ሌሎች በርካቶች ደግሞ ከአገር መውጣት የሚያስችላቸውን ሰነድ በማዘጋጀት ላይ ናቸው ነው ያሉት። ለሁለት ዓመት ከትምህርት በማቋረታቸው ወላጆች ልጅ መዳርን አማራጭ እንዳደረጉ ነው ያብራሩት። በዚሁ ዞን እናርጅ እናውጋ ወረዳ መምህር እንደሆኑ የገለጡልን አስተያየት ሰጪ የሁለተኛ ደረጃ ተማሪዎች በአብዛኛው ወደ ትዳር እየገቡ ነው። በተለይ ችግሩ በገጠር አካባቢ የባሰ እንደሆነም አብራርተዋል። https://bit.ly/4hRu4t0

Setaweet, in partnership with Talita Rise Up, has launched a community discussion series as part of the Leddokie Project, an extension of the Movement Building Project. This initiative, designed specifically for married women, fosters meaningful conversations through weekly dialogues over 12 weeks in Yirgalem, Sidama Region. The community discussions officially began with the first session, Mestawete (መስታውቴ), on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Participants expressed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in the discussions, marking a promising start. The remaining sessions will focus on building gender equality awareness, personal development, economic empowerment, and strengthening family and community bonds. Through these discussions, mothers will acquire skills and knowledge to improve their own lives and positively influence their families and communities. This initiative is made possible through the generous support of Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

Setaweet is deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal crime committed against 8-year-old Simbo Birhanu in Meta Wolkite Woreda, West Shewa, Ethiopia. We stand in solidarity with her family and demand justice. The perpetrators must be held accountable and face the full extent of the law. This is not just about Simbo; recently, another horrific crime took the life of Heaven Awot. Violence against children is one of the most urgent human rights issues in our society today. ሴታዊት በምዕራብ ሸዋ ኢትዮጵያ በሜታ ወልቂጤ ወረዳ  የምትኖር የ8 አመቷ ህጻን ሲምቦ ብርሃኑ ላይ የተፈጸመው እጅግ አሰቃቂ ጥቃት የተሰማትን ሃዘን እንዲሁም ለሟች ህፃን ቤተሰቦች አብሮነታችንን ትገልጻለች። ለሲምቦ ፍትህ እንዲሰፍን እና ወንጀለኞቹም በህግ ሙሉ በሙሉ እንዲጠየቁ ትጠይቃለች። በሕጻናት ላይ የሚፈጸመው ጥቃት  አሁን ላይ በሕብረተሰባችን ውስጥ አንገብጋቢ ከሆኑ የሰብአዊ መብት ጥሰት ጉዳዮች አንዱ ነው ። ከዚህ በፊትም በሄቭን አወት ላይ በተመሳሳይ ሁኔታ የደረሰው ጥቃት ለዚህ ትልቅ ማሳያ ነው።ሲምቦ ላይ የመድፈር እና ግድያ ወንጀል ተፈጽሞባታል። ህይወቷ ካለፈ በኃላም ተጠርጣሪው አስክሬኗን ሰቅሎት እንደሄደ ተሰምቷል። ሴታዊት ሲምቦ ብርሃኑ ላይ የደረሰው መደፈር እና ግድያ ፍትህ እንዲሰጣት ስትል ጥሪ ታቀርባለች።
