41. A Visit to an Exhibition Ans. Last Sunday, I visited a week-long exhibition of electronic items and computers. It was called 'Genext'. It was held at the University Grounds. It was open every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The main gate was huge and impressive. There were many big sections like Household Appliances, Office Equipment, Communication, Computers, etc. Each section had stalls of different companies manufacturing electronic items in that category. There were free demonstrations, brochures and samples for all the items. I was interested in computers. I got to know about the latest hardware and software available, internet services and also laptop and palmtop computers. It was a good experience to get the latest guidance. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 42. A Visit to a Museum Ans. Last week, I visited the City Museum with my family. First we went to the big central hall, where there were pictures and models depicting the progress of mankind. We saw many weapons, right from those used in the stone age to the latest machine guns. There was a variety of knives, swords, spears and shields. The next room showed how man learnt the art of writing. There were writings on leaves, baked clay, parchment (ચર્મપત્ર), silk and the latest printed, coloured book. From here we went to the hall, which displayed different styles of paintings belonging to different eras. There were rare sculptures and statues, too. Since we did not have much time to spend, we quickly went through the cloth, glassware and pottery sections. It was interesting and informative visit. I enjoyed it a lot. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 43. A Rainy Day Ans. The rainy season is my favourite season. After the hot days of summer, a rainy day is a welcome change. Suddenly black clouds gather in the sky. We see lightning and hear thunder. And then it starts raining heavily. People on the roads have to run for shelter in a shop or under a tree. People on scooters and bicycles are completely wet before they take shelter. The roads are filled with water. There are muddy puddles on the roads. It is very difficult to walk or drive a vehicle on such roads. Children jump into the puddles and also make paper boats. Some start dancing with umbrellas in their hands. A rainy day is most welcome in villages. Farmers are happy because they expect a good harvest. The rivers and ponds are full of water, thus ending the water scarcity in the villages. Even Nature looks beautiful on a rainy day. The leaves look bright green, the peacocks dance and the rainbow in the sky adds to the beauty of a rainy day. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 44. A Hot Summer Day Ans. The summer heat is unbearable. It makes people feel very lazy. In the morning, the atmosphere is cool. But as the sun rises, it gets warmer and warmer. They prefer to sit under the fans or in air-conditioned rooms in their homes or offices. In the afternoon, the heat increases. There is hardly any traffic on the roads. Some people are seen taking a nap under the cool shady trees. Very few people are seen on the roads. People use caps, hats or umbrellas to protect themselves from the unbearable heat. A summer evening is also quite cool. After sunset, a cool breeze blows. People slowly start coming out of their houses. Roads, shops, gardens and parks are crowded. Vendors of ice-cream and cold drinks do a good business. A hot summer day in the village is very different. People get up at dawn. In spite of the heat, they work hard to their fields. They rest for sometime in the afternoon. They enjoy themselves at night when the temperature goes down. 〰️〰️〰️〰️

76. Electricity and its Wonders Ans. Of all the inventions of science in the last two centuries, the invention of electricity is indeed the most useful. We simply cannot imagine the world without electricity. We use many electrical gadgets like TV, refrigerator, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, iron, fan and other household appliances. Even industries need electricity to run their modern machines and computers. Today, electricity has reached most of the villages in India. Electricity is a great aid to communication. Urgent messages can be sent through telephones, telegraphs and fax machines. Nowadays, messages can be quickly sent or received with the help of the internet. We get the news of the world through the TV. The tape-recorder, the stereo, the video and the cinema provide us with entertainment. Electricity is also important in the world of medicine. X-ray and other such machines run on electricity. We realise the importance of electricity only at the time of its failure. We then understand how this wonderful invention has become a part of our lives. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 77. A Refrigerator Ans. This is the age of fast development in science and technology. Today we use many machines at home and at our place of work. Machines have made our lives easier and comfortable. At home, we use many appliances like the mixer, the washing machine, the grinder. But the most common home appliance is the refrigerator. A refrigerator is used to store fruits and vegetables. It keeps them fresh and green for a long time. Milk, curds and cold drinks are also kept in the refrigerator. A refrigerator is also used to make and preserve ice-cream. A refrigerator is very useful in summer. It helps to keep the water cold. We can store cold drinks and juices in it. It also protects the vegetables, milk and other eatables from getting spoilt due to heat. A refrigerator is used in hospitals and medical stores to store medicines, injections and other drugs. It is also used by blood banks to store the collected blood at a fixed temperature. The refrigerator is indeed a very useful machine. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 78. The Computer Ans. The computer is one of the most wonderful and useful of all modern inventions. Computers are used in almost all the fields of human activities. The computer can store large quantities of data, compare and analyse the information and give accurate information. It operates at high speed. Computers are used to store production, sales and accounting information. They are also used to send or receive messages with the help of the internet. Computers are also used at airports and railway stations. Reservations or cancellations of tickets are done on computers. Computers are used at home and in schools and colleges. Timetables, marks sheets and salary bills are prepared on computers. Hospitals also use computers to store medical data of their patients. Architects and engineers use computers to design buildings. Cartoon films are also made using computers. Computers are very useful in space technology. Missiles, rockets and spacecrafts are launched with the help of computers.
