. 🦠HIV AIDS🦠
Why in News? 🙌
Since 2010, the country has seen a remarkable 44% drop in new HIV cases. Let’s dive into some important details. 💡
What is AIDS?
AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a chronic condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), attacking the immune system. First detected in the 1980s, it's a serious public health concern globally. 🦠
HIV Transmission
HIV spreads through sexual contact, blood transfusions, sharing infected needles, and from mother to child during childbirth. Certain groups, like people who inject drugs and sex workers, are at higher risk. ⚠️
India's Progress 🇮🇳
New infections have dropped by 44% since 2010! 🎉
82% of Indians living with HIV know their status, and 72% are on life-saving antiretroviral therapy (ART).
AIDS-related deaths have fallen by 69% since 2004.
How Did India Achieve This?
With the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) launched in 1992 and free ART treatments, India has made incredible strides. Mass awareness programs, youth-targeted initiatives, and destigmatization laws have also played key roles. 📢
Global Impact 🌏
Globally, 39 million people live with HIV, but India accounts for only 6.3%, a major drop from 10% two decades ago. With continued efforts, the world aims to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 under the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. 🎯

Murine typhus is caused by Rickettsia typhi, spread through the bites of infected fleas found on rodents like rats, mice, and even pets like cats and dogs.
