Robert Zund 1827 - 1909 #Zund
Zünd was obsessed with botanical accuracy to an almost scientific degree - he'd spend entire days sketching a single oak tree from multiple angles before even touching paint. In the 1850s, he actually traveled to Düsseldorf to study with the German landscape masters, then brought their meticulous techniques back to Switzerland where he painted the same Alpine meadows and forest paths over and over. His studio was supposedly crammed with hundreds of these nature studies, each leaf and bark texture recorded like field notes.
