Hello ISA members, As part of our upcoming Nowruz celebration, we are planning to express our gratitude towards non-Iranians who have helped the Iranian students with transition to US, UF and Gainesville. We are asking you to introduce anyone you have received significant help from so we can send a formal invitation and prepare for the event. Whether you stayed at their place when you came to Gainesville for the first time, or they helped you with furniture, shopping, moving or in any capacity that made major contributions to your journey, we would be more than happy to formally extend our gratitude towards them on behalf of Iranians of UF. For this nomination, you will need their full names, phone numbers and email addresses. Use this form to nominate your “Friends of Iran.”

This ensemble has two components:   1.      Ensemble Rehearsal: Different size chamber groups rehearse Persian repertoire selected for their instruments.                                                               i.      In select cases fiddle players (violin and viola) can learn advanced solo repertoire in the Persian style through individual instruction.   2.      Instruction on the modal dastgāh system: In this component students learn the core modal melody types through the traditional format of oral transmission (sineh-be-sineh): in these group sessions, through repetition and imitation, students experience the nuances of the modal dastgāh system. Dear all,   I am happy to announce that on Thursday February 1st we will be having two informational sessions for our new world music ensemble at the UF School of Music, the Classical Persian Music Ensemble.   The ensemble will be directed by me, Dr. Payam Yousefi. In this ensemble we play repertoire based in the micro-tonal modal dastgāh tradition of Iran. This encompasses music composed for varying ensemble configurations that use both Iranian and Western instruments. From solo pieces, to duets, to chamber pieces, and larger ensemble formats, students learn music that spans the 19th century to the present. Students can also learn improvisatory free-meter forms of Persian music on an individual basis at the instructor’s discretion.

Per ISA's communication with UFIC, we wanted to update the community regarding Florida’s Foreign Influence Legislation. This is an evolving situation and nothing is still completely final. The following is only our understanding after speaking with the dean of UFIC. - The new legislature will not affect students who are already enrolled. - Prospective students are advised to apply to universities outside Florida unless they want to fund their education themselves. - If you have accepted an admission offer from UF, it is still unlear how this affects you. It might be a good idea to start applying elsewhere. We will post updates as we receive them. - Enrolled scholars who want to travel outside US, specially to Iran, make sure to have valid visa and I-20/DS-2019 and contact UFIC advisors for updates. - Transfer to Florida universities by scholars who will be in the US at the time of application should be OK. - The situation is still unclear for pending F-2/J-2 individuals. We are awaiting more updates.
