During my private tutorial classes I used to ask several routine questions before accepting new students.
The questions included:
Where do you study/work?
How long have you been learning English?
Why are you preparing for IELTS?
and
What coursebooks have you completed so far?
(from this answer I could guess where you come from)
The most common answers would be Macmillan’s “Straightforward” and Oxford’s “(New) Headway” series which are very popular around the world among English learners. But when I asked what the words “headway” or “straightforward” actually meant, oftentimes most students would give me totally wrong translations.
They finished pre-intermediate level of the course, but had an idea that “headway” means “bosh yo’l, asosiy yo’l or основная дорога”. They didn’t know that “(make) headway” actually means “make progress” and “straightforward” is in fact used to mean “easy to understand and simple”.
The thing is some words in English do not exactly mean what you think in your native language. Even until today I have to look up some words and find different pronunciation and usage rules. So, make an effort to check the true meaning of the words in an authentic dictionary before using them in your speech or writing. I would highly recommend two bestselling dictionaries on the market today (you can find Android installtion file on the channel):
Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (OALD)-10th edition
and

I have known Diyorbek since he began his studies at Navoiy academic lyceum. At that time I was hometutoring on General English and had just recently started teaching IELTS as well.
I have always been impressed by his passion and enthusiasm for his classes (not only English). When he got his first result I knew he deserved a lot higher score because of his persistence and deligence. But he didn’t give up and his hard work paid off when he got 8.
Our relationship which started as “a student and tutor” turned into friendship. Last year, at this time of the year we decided to take the test together. (It was my first IELTS attempt). I remember coming home after the exam (I was staying with Diyorbek in Tashkent), Diyorbek and I then tried to remember every question of the listening test and compared our answers. We knew we could easily get 9 from listening. (We had one different answer though, in the spelling of a name I guess). We felt a bit nervous about our overall score. Still we managed to get 8.5 overall from the test.
