To whom it may concern, I was informed that Ms. Darya Farivar is running to serve in the Washington State Legislature. I want to caution you on Darya Farivar’s endorsement by the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), a notorious lobby group that works to spread rhetoric that benefits the Islamic Republic's regime. NIAC is well recognized for their support of Iran’s brutal dictatorship and acting as their lobbying arm in the United States. In 2015, Judge John D. Bates ruled against NIAC's lawsuit for accusations that its president's working and advocating for the Iranian regime" [1]. Similarly, in 2020, several US Senators warned about the troubling actions by NIAC in support of the Iranian regime that positions them as the regime’s lobbyists. They sent a letter to the Attorney General to investigate this organization and its sister organization, NIAC Action, for potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act [2]. Furthermore, more than 38,000 Iranian-Americans have recently signed a petition stating that NIAC acts against their interests and, rather, represents the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran [3]. The signatures keep adding up. Although Darya declares to establish a state commission on Middle Eastern affairs within the Governor’s office to amplify the messages coming from the people of Iran, she has blocked and removed comments pertaining to her endorsement by NIAC, in which constituents like me, have asked her fair questions regarding her candidacy. This has led me to question her motives, character, and openness to the community’s needs in general. As you are aware, the Iranian regime is brutally cracking down on the brave Iranian men and women who are standing against the Islamic Republic's autocracy. So far, hundreds of people, including high-school girls, have been killed most brutally. Some were beaten to death, and others received multiple gunshots. While Iranians worldwide have been mourning for weeks, and have been desperately calling out to have their voices heard, Ms. Farivar has been focused on her Halloween decorations and parties. As Iranian-Americans, we ask “the Washington Democratic party to retrieve their endorsement of Ms. Farivar” given her NIAC and NIAC Action PAC endorsement. Farivar’s connection with the Iranian regime’s lobby leaves us very concerned about the policies that she may advocate in the future and whether she will be able to act in the best interests of the United States as well as the Iranian-American community..
