Intl. community must support ICC’s work; Euro-Med Monitor warns against attempts to obstruct justice Geneva - Amidst Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people in the 1967 Occupied Palestinian Territory, Euro-Med Monitor expresses concern over frequent reports of political pressure exercised by Israel and its allies aimed at preventing the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague from issuing arrest warrants against senior Israeli security and political figures. Any attempts to undermine the ICC’s work, harm its integrity and independence, prioritise political interests over considerations of achieving international justice, and intervene on behalf of the perpetrator at the expense of the victim are appalling. Israeli officials’ incitement campaigns against the ICC to prevent it from acting against them are also condemned. Press release: https://euromedmonitor.org/a/6288

Gaza: Intense summer heat increasing fatalities, displaced people’s suffering Palestinian Territory - Summertime’s sharp rise in temperature, coupled with high humidity, dry weather, and the proliferation of insects and rodents, poses a major risk to displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. An increase in fatalities and the spread of disease has recently killed or otherwise affected these refugees, worsening the suffering of people whose lives are already in jeopardy as a result of Israel’s genocidal war against them, which is ongoing for the seventh consecutive month. The Israeli-made humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip puts Palestinian civilians in real danger, especially those who are more vulnerable. The extreme heat and unfavourable living conditions, such as overcrowded shelter centres or nylon tents devoid of basic supplies, compound the effects of fear, hunger, and dehydration. Gaza: International investigation committee should be formed into mass graves to examine and identify victims An immediate international action should be taken to investigate hundreds of mass and random graves in the Gaza Strip, which contain the bodies of thousands of Palestinian victims since the start of the ongoing Israeli military attack on 7 October 2023. Euro-Med field teams closely observed the recovery of hundreds of dead bodies from mass graves, some of which were found in different Gaza Strip hospitals. 200 days of military attack on Gaza: A horrific death toll amid intl. failure to stop Israel’s genocide of Palestinians Palestinian Territory - The consequences of the 200-day Israeli military assault on the Gaza Strip are horrifying, both in their scope and their deliberate targeting of Palestinian civilians. This is particularly alarming given the shameful lack of global pressure on Israel to adhere to international law and the rulings of the International Court of Justice and to halt the ongoing crime of genocide against the Palestinian people. Euro-Med Monitor stated in a press release, that it outlined in numbers the catastrophic results of the genocide being carried out by Israel with the aim of destroying Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. It emphasized that this genocide continues unabated, with Israel persisting in its attacks at the same intensity and committing horrendous crimes, ignoring escalating calls for a ceasefire. Israel is fortified by protection of the U.S. and European and international stances that, at best, only amount to condemnation statements. Press release: https://euromedmonitor.org/a/6282

Gaza: The Israeli army likely to erase Beit Lahia, killing and uprooting its citizens The Israeli army is likely to carry out a fresh massacre in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia, initiating a new round of forced evacuation orders against its estimated 50,000 citizens who remained in the area. The UN and other international parties need to take immediate action to protect Palestinian civilians. After declaring the town of Beit Lahia to be a "dangerous combat zone" and threatening to "act with extreme force," the Israeli army started to launch heavy air and artillery attacks on the town, followed by fresh evacuation orders. Tunisia: Former president, two journalists on trial over TV interview Geneva - The ongoing escalation against journalists and critical voices in Tunisia, as part of the “extraordinary measures” declared by President Kais Saied in July 2021, includes the recent summoning of a former president and two journalists for investigation. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor condemns both the investigation and the measures. The Tunisian authorities opened the judicial investigation on 15 April against former president Mohamed Moncef Marzouki; journalist and programme presenter Al-Hussein Bin Omar; and director of Tunisia’s Al-Zaytouna television channel and journalist Sami Al-Said, according to the official spokesperson for the Ariana Court in the Tunis suburb. The investigation comes following a live discussion on Al-Zaytouna, which the authorities deemed parts of to be “intentionally inflammatory” and harmful to “public security”, per the complaint filed with the Audiovisual Communications Authority. Gaza: Amidst Israel’s genocide, Palestinian civilians face an unparalleled health and environmental crisis Palestinian Territory - The people of the Gaza Strip face a growing risk of infectious and deadly diseases, especially among vulnerable groups. Disease is spreading throughout the region due to the health crisis caused by Israel’s strict siege and genocide against Palestinians in the Strip; the latter has been ongoing since 7 October 2023. In addition to the Israeli army’s ceaseless air, land, and sea attacks, the Gaza Strip’s population is dying from infectious diseases and epidemics brought on by contaminated water; overcrowding; high temperatures; a collapsed health system, a shortage of sterilisation supplies and medicine; and an accumulation of solid waste throughout the Strip. Israeli army broadcasts intimidating sounds to lure, kill, and forcibly displace civilians in the Nuseirat camp Geneva - As part of its ongoing genocide, which started on 7 October 2023, the Israeli army is using new disturbing techniques to intimidate, lure, and target Palestinian civilians in the central Gaza Strip’s Nuseirat refugee camp. Testimonies from camp residents, which were provided to the Euro-Med Monitor team, confirm that the sound of women screaming and babies crying was heard late at night on both Sunday and Monday. When some of the residents went out to investigate and tried to help, they were shot at by Israeli quadcopter drones. The sounds they had heard were in fact recordings played by the Israeli drones, with the intent of forcing the camp’s residents out into the streets, where they could be easily targeted by snipers and other weaponry. Israel keeps up its crimes of forced displacement, threatening to kill those who return home   Geneva - The Israeli army has targeted thousands of Palestinians who it had forcibly displaced, preventing them from going back to their areas of residence in the northern Gaza Strip by using live ammunition and artillery shells. This has resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, including women and children, and forced the remaining Palestinians to return to their places of displacement.   The Israeli army deliberately attacked thousands of Palestinian civilians on Sunday, killing and wounding dozens of them, and continuing its crime of forced displacement by preventing civilians it had previously forced to evacuate, including women and children, from crossing from the centre and south of the Gaza Strip into their areas of residence in the northern regions, despite the end of hostilities in most of these regions. These actions may be considered crimes against humanity and war crimes.   Press release: https://euromedmonitor.org/a/6269
