Thirty years ago, UzTEA began with a simple but powerful idea: teachers grow stronger when they grow together. At the heart of that beginning were two remarkable educators Dr. Jamilya Gulyamova and Professor Muhammadabbos Irisqulov, among the founding figures who helped establish the Uzbekistan Teachers of English Association in 1996. Dr. Jamilya Gulyamova established UzTEA in 1996 and became its first President, serving from 1996 to 2001. Her career has been closely connected with English language education, teacher development, curriculum reform and educational leadership in Uzbekistan. Now serving as Deputy Director – British Council Uzbekistan. Professor Muhammadabbos Irisqulov was one of the early leaders who helped shape the Association and its professional community bringing together English teachers around learning, collaboration and professional growth. He led UzTEA as President 2001 - 2011 years.
