The maps illustrate how part of central Tashkent changed between 2015 and 2025.
Overall, the area underwent considerable redevelopment, with many older buildings being replaced by modern commercial facilities and a large public park. The most noticeable changes were the construction of Tashkent City Park, Hilton Tashkent City and Tashkent City Mall, while several major roads and landmarks remained in place.
In 2015, most of the central area consisted of small, densely packed buildings, with only a limited amount of green space. The Ankhor Canal ran along the western side of the area, while Furkat Street was located to the south. Chorsu Bazaar and the Alisher Navoi Opera House were also already present and remained largely unchanged throughout the period.
By 2025, a substantial proportion of the old buildings had been demolished and replaced with modern developments. The most significant addition was Tashkent City Park, which occupied a large central section and included trees, walking paths and water features. Hilton Tashkent City was constructed to the north of the park, while Tashkent City Mall was added in the south-eastern part of the area. In addition, the road network was improved and more landscaped areas were introduced, giving the district a much more modern and spacious appearance.
Overall, the area was transformed from a mainly built-up residential zone into a modern mixed-use district with significantly more green and recreational space. | 2 344 |

| 12 | The maps compare the layout of Castellón in Spain in 2000 with that of the present day.
Overall, the city has undergone extensive redevelopment, characterised by a marked expansion of residential, commercial, transport and entertainment facilities. Particularly striking is the move away from car-oriented infrastructure towards public transport, cycling and pedestrian access. Despite these substantial changes, the university and port have remained in their original locations.
In 2000, Castellón was comparatively undeveloped. The university was situated in the north, adjacent to a wooded area, while a railway station stood to the west of the city centre. Further south was an old market. A road accommodating motor vehicles extended across the southern part of the city, separating the urban area from the port on the coast.
Since then, the northern half of Castellón has been transformed considerably. A hall of residence and a police station have been established to the west of the university, while the wooded area to its east has given way to a new shopping centre. The former railway station has been replaced by a new facility closer to the city centre, from which a tramline now runs northwards past the university. The city centre itself has also been adapted for cyclists.
Equally significant changes are evident in the south. The former road has been pedestrianised, and the waterfront has acquired a range of leisure facilities, including a cinema to the west and bars and clubs to the east. Meanwhile, an airport is under construction in the north-east, further demonstrating the city's substantial expansion and modernisation. | 1 375 |
