Tech!
Филипп Белов — Head of Product Design, AliExpress Россия.

Alexandra Korolkova tells how to choose a font for your project. This piece started in her lecture at 32:10. I screenshotted main thoughts but still recommend watching.

"For centuries, design was a luxury. But throughout the 1800s, science — and the technology it created — would begin to make design more accessible to the masses. A design revolution was on the horizon. [...] Goods would fetch a higher price just because they looked expensive: working men and women would pay extra to have homes, neighbourhoods, clothes, and vehicles that broadcast their fellowship with the rich."
"Design has evolved to meet the challenge of the new relationship between people and the material goods they need. Today, designers — artisans, manufacturers, engineers, architects — think far beyond the way things look. Comparing pre-industrial design to post-industrial design with a picture is absurd. Critiquing a modern object based on its appearance is ignoring the thousands of decisions that go into its creation. Each and every one of those decisions has tradeoffs, ranging in impact from saving fractions of pennies in material cost to causing billions of dollars of long-term ecological harm."

"Idealism can be beneficial. It can make us more ambitious and confident, convinced opportunity lies around the corner. But it can also be crushing when we realize not everything is as romantic as we imagined it to be. When I first pursued design as a career, I was ready to take on the world and do big, exciting projects for clients I believe in. I soon discovered that half of the time or more, I would not be doing this kind of work. In between all those award-winning, history-making campaigns we celebrate and read about in our textbooks is the work that pays the bills. The less sexy, maybe less award-worthy but nevertheless important work.
[...]
After working for more than a decade as a designer, I can promise you this: There may never be a point when you’re consistently doing only creatively fulfilling, exciting work that perfectly aligns with your passions and values. For every one perfect project, there are 10 projects you’re doing just keep the lights on"

Macstories made a review of iOS 16. As always, it's a pretty big and detailed article about every feature updated in the new version. For myself, I noted that Apple started to use pull-down menu component more often and bottom sheet less.

Mentorship
Hi, guys. I've decided to do some mentoring. Remember that I am a Senior Product Designer and have worked in red_mad_robot and Skyeng. In my previous workplace, I worked on a student cabinet platform and design system.
I can help with:
• Resume and portfolio review
• Design career path
• How to work remotely
• Giving effective feedback
• Improving design skills
• How to work with engineers
• Practice mock interviews
• How to make a design system
• What to do with burnout
I can't help with:
• How to work on a freelance
• How to develop yourself in graphic design
• Leadership and management people
It's free, so if you want to apply, fill out the form below. If you didn't find a specific topic that you're interested in, still feel free to write. The more conscious application will be, the more chances you will get.
Do not worry, meetings will be in the Russian language. And if something goes wrong, it's ok. I'm doing this first time.
What will be next?
On Monday, I will choose 2-4 people and send them the link in telegram for booking time. When it happens, I will update this post and write that applications are no longer accepted.

Stanislav Khrustalev is writing articles about Customer Experience on his website. My favourite section — the ideal service. It's articles about a perfect path, for example, since you decide to go to a restaurant to a moment when you exit from there. It covers all steps of how a client thinks: how to choose a place, how to book, how to arrive, what a client expects to see when he enters a building and so on.

An article about how to prepare for a whiteboard interview. Zhenshuo Fang provides a framework for building the best solution during an interview. It's pretty abstract, so you can combine it with your daily process and get your personal approach.
"The goal of a [whiteboard] design challenge is not testing how many ideas you can come up with. It is critical to show that you are familiar with common design methods to do day-to-day design work."

Dmitry Vanitski, a Principal UX Designer at EPAM, wrote an article about Object-Oriented UX. It's a framework that helps you understand from which objects your UI will be built. And what connections between them. Used twice in my work, I think it's pretty helpful on stage when you need to gather requirements for a future project.

WeTransfer, ex-Intercom
Beamery, ex-Intercom
And I think now is a good time to change the language of the posts to English. So future posts will be in English only.
