🔵 IS FREE MARKET THE SAME AS CAPITALISM❓ ▶️ A capitalist economy and a free market economy are two types of economic systems. Often the terms are used interchangeably, especially in casual parlance. But, while they have overlapping qualities, the two are not quite the same thing. ▶️ Capitalist and free-market systems do spring from the same economic soil, so to speak: the law of supply and demand, which becomes the basis to determine the price and production of goods and services. ▶️ But they refer to different things. Capitalism is focused on the creation of wealth and ownership of capital and factors of production, whereas a free market system is focused on the exchange of wealth or goods and services. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙

🔵 MILLIONS SHOP ON THANKSGIVING WEEKEND ▶️ In 2020, an estimated 186.4 people shopped in stores or online during the period from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF), spending an average of $311.75 over the five-day period, down 13.9% from $361.90 in 2019. More than 100 million people shopped online for the first time, and the number of online-only shoppers increased by 44% to 95.7 million. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙

🔵 HOW THANKSGIVING & BLACK FRIDAY AFFECT STOCKS ▶️ Black Friday is the name given to the first day after Thanksgiving. It is one of the most important retail and spending events in the United States. Every holiday season, prognosticators make predictions about the level of sales on Black Friday, and investor confidence may be affected by whether or not those expectations are met or exceeded. ▶️ If consumers follow up Thanksgiving by spending a lot of money on Black Friday and retailers show strong numbers, then investors might have their first indication that it is shaping up to be a particularly profitable shopping season. This confidence can be reflected in the stock prices of the retailers that post strong sales. Conversely, many take it as a sign of trouble if retailers are unable to meet expectations on Black Friday. Concern over the economy is magnified if consumers are perceived to be reining in their spending. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙

🔵 UNDERSTANDING WORKERS' COMPENSATION ▶️ Workers' compensation benefits may include partial wage replacement for the period during which the employee cannot work. The benefits may also include reimbursement for healthcare services and occupational therapy. ▶️ Most workers' compensation programs are paid for by private insurers, from premiums paid by the individual employers. Each state has a Workers' Compensation Board, a state agency that oversees the program and intervenes in disputes. ▶️ There are federal workers' compensation programs that cover federal employees, longshore and harbor workers, and energy employees. Another federal program, the Black Lung Program, handles death and disability benefits for coal miners and their dependents. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙 | 📈 @Value 📉

🔵 WHAT IS WORKERS' COMPENSATION❓ ▶️ Workers' compensation, commonly referred to as "workers comp," is a government-mandated program that provides benefits to workers who become injured or ill on the job or as a result of the job. It is effectively a disability insurance program for workers, providing cash benefits, healthcare benefits, or both to workers who suffer injury or illness as a direct result of their jobs. ▶️ In the U.S., workers' compensation is handled primarily by the individual states. The required benefits vary greatly state by state. ▶️ Texas is the only state that does not require employers to maintain workers' compensation insurance. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙 | 📈 @Value 📉

🔵 WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE GIG ECONOMY❓ ▶️ The gig economy has many benefits for both the employee and employer. An employer has access to a wide range of talent that they can hire. If the talent proves to be less than acceptable, there is no contract to keep the employee on or issues of letting them go. In addition, in a time when it has become difficult to attract full-time workers, employers can hire from the gig economy. ▶️ In addition, hiring gig workers can be more affordable as companies don't have to pay for health insurance or other benefits. For employees, the gig economy's benefits include having the option to do multiple jobs, work from anywhere depending on the specific job, freedom, and flexibility in their daily routine. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙 | 📈 @Value 📉

🔵 WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF A GIG ECONOMY❓ ▶️ Examples of a gig economy are those jobs that individuals discover and access through online platforms that list such jobs. These jobs are often one-time or short-term contract jobs. These include driving for a ride-sharing service, painting someone's house, freelance work, coaching, fitness training, and tutoring. The job is exchanged for cash and there are no other benefits, such as health insurance. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙 | 📈 @Value 📉

🔵 CRITICISMS OF THE GIG ECONOMY ▶️ Despite its benefits, there are some downsides to the gig economy. While not all employers are inclined to hire contracted employees, the gig economy trend can make it harder for full-time employees to develop in their careers since temporary employees are often cheaper to hire and more flexible in their availability. Workers who prefer a traditional career path and the stability and security that come with it are being crowded out in some industries. ▶️ For some workers, the flexibility of working gigs can actually disrupt the work-life balance, sleep patterns, and activities of daily life. Flexibility in a gig economy often means that workers have to make themselves available any time gigs come up, regardless of their other needs, and must always be on the hunt for the next gig. Competition for gigs has increased, too. And unemployment insurance usually doesn't cover gig workers who can't find employment (2020's CARES Act made an exception). ▶️ In effect, workers in a gig economy are more like entrepreneurs than traditional workers. While this may mean greater freedom of choice for the individual worker, it also means that the security of a steady job with regular pay, benefits—including a retirement account—and a daily routine that has characterized work for generations are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. ▶️ Lastly, because of the fluid nature of gig economy transactions and relationships, long-term relationships between workers, employers, clients, and vendors can erode. This can eliminate the benefits that flow from building long-term trust, customary practice, and familiarity with clients and employers. ▶️ It could also discourage investment in relationship-specific assets that would otherwise be profitable to pursue since no party has an incentive to invest significantly in a relationship that only lasts until the next gig comes along. ━━━━━━━━━━━ 💰 @Exchange 🪙 | 📈 @Value 📉
